  • Just been digging around for a good pet insurance policy and found the one from LV to be really good value.
Low premium, fantastic cover, low excess (compared to some).
  • Hi Dan

I have just been rip off by Sainsbury's 118% increase in cover just because of a £200 claim! PetPlan do not do this, so i have moved, wish i checked them out before! These supermarkets always seem to make things seem much cheaper than others giving you points or other insentives, then in most cases with dogs you have to claim for something then the increases happen.
  • Hi cheap is not always good! Sainsbury's offered Nectar and discounts to insure my golden retriever for £13.52 per month. year on and 1 small claim of £200 now they want £29.67 per month. Petplan do not increase if you claim but, do charge more! Insure for life long illness otherwise they get you for that too.
  • I beg to differ. My old boxer was insured with PP, every single time i made a claim my premiums went up substantially the following year. PP never quibbled about any claim I made tho.

I have just had a very expensive experience with pet insurance, I have two dogs which are insured with Petpals, Furness House. One of my dogs had an infection in her ovaries which spread to her uterus, all had to be removed. Total cost over£700 which we had to find ourselves as Petpals said those items were not covered with their insurance.

I know this is an old comment, but it proves you really need to read policies carefully. Petpals offer a very basic policy, which only covers NAMED conditions. Womb infections are relatively common in unspayed dogs and most policies will cover the cost of an emergency spay.Your premium may be a tad higher for unneutered dogs and only specialist policies can cover conditions relating to breeding. But an emergency spay is NOT related to breeding and I would avoid any policy that excluded it if I had an unneutered b1tch.
"Cheap", "Fast", "Right" -- pick two.

I`ve just had my renewal from Argos for a 2 year old Old English Sheepdog..gone from £22.77 a month to £28.17 (£60 increase and I have not made a claim) they also say our insurance has been transferred to RSA.
I see some of you have recommended John Lewis so am going to get a quote from them, (Pet Plan was too expensive as they class Harry as a special breed) can anyone recommend any other companies worth getting quotes from?
    Thanks.

Just got a quote from John Lewis £20.82 a month £249.79 and one from AXA £24.77 a month £297.18.
Think we might go with John Lewis for the next 12 months...

"We have carefully selected Royal & Sun Alliance Insurance plc to underwrite John Lewis Pet Insurance."

Not that RSA is necessarily bad, but I thought you should be aware of that.

I`m still pondering on the John Lewis policy...The argos one we had has just been underwritten by Royal & Sun Alliance and the premium has increased substantially. Even though John Lewis policy is underwirtten its still in their name and I`m thinking that they wouldn`t piddle you about if you unfortunately had to make a claim.
Pet Plan are far too expensive (would love one of their policies as used to have one for our previous Old English).
AXA is slightly more expensive but not sure if it would be better.

Can anyone who has a JL policy make any comments or suggestions as to how it is and if they have had to make any claims...
I`ve read a recent posting about AXA, but I also know that they underwrite their own policies so not sure if this is better.

Any info, suggestions, advice anyone can offer would be really helpful.

    Many thanks

Thing is, a lot of these supermarket/banks etc insurance regularly seem to swop their underwriters at which time premiums tend to shoot up and/or conditions change. Ive got one with M and S - cant move him because he has a life long condition - and the other with AXA.

If I could afford it, Id go with Petplan.
