Driving with a broken leg
I have recently been left an automatic car by a disabled relative - this had been adapted for driving solely by hand control but retains original foot pedals
A friend has recently broken his foot which has been put into a plaster cast so could he borrow this car and drive it legally as it is totally hand controlled ?

Not sure about an automatic, but I broke my foot and have a 'walking cast' thing with a shoe on. I tried driving after week 4 in the cast, and it's been fine.
Due to get the cast removed on Tuesday.. can't wait!!I Hate Jobsworths!!!0 -
Which foot did he break? When my OH had his left foot in plaster the company he worked for hired him an automatic car to get him to work - a nice little convertible merc!! A long time ago though. Was absolutely fine, apparently something in the rules that said he could not drive an ordinary car because he would not be in full control. What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0

MOVING THREADS FOR BETTER RESPONSES
Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere (please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. If you have any questions about this policy please email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com.0 -
So long as the doctor say it's ok and hasn't restricted your friend from driving. The insurance company are informed of the condition and he can do an emergency stop all should be fine.0

Must be ok, my late grandad drove and he had no arms.
I'll never forget his last words........................f*ck me, a bend!0 -
hi...check the terms and conditions on either yours, or your friend's, insurance policies.
Many insurers now specifically state that no cover will exist if the vehicle is driven by a driver with a broken limb. No, I don't think all other drivers are idiots......but some are determined to change my mind.......0 -

x2
and if your policy doesn't mention it then it's because the clever bloke who wrote the policy doesn't care so don't go confusing matters by talking to some poorly trained & paid call centre person as no good can come from it.0
