Bought car from dealer last year, now found out its had a bad accident repair?

Hey,

In a big predicament here guys. I bought a car from a dealership last year and the time has come to trade it in or sell it to get one with 5 doors and practicality. The problem came when the little one fell and grabbed the trim around the passenger door the other day. (Door seal?)

Underneath this trim is different colour paint, with the welds having been drilled out presumably for a replacement panel, then not welded back together

I've been on the blower to Consumer Direct, and they've given me a draft letter to send to the dealership, but I'm wondering if any of you guys have a similar experience and what the outcome was?

To say I'm gutted is an understatement, I couldn't sell the car on knowing what I know, so my only option apart from trying to get some money back is scrap it.

Thanks for any help guys :)

Sounds like you have been stitched up by a dishonest dealer. Did you get an AA check on the car? They can be handy to spot things like this. Now it is worth checking if the VIN plates are kosher, you might have a cut & shut (2 writeoffs welded together). Perhaps get an independent (eg AA) mechanic to inspect the vehicle and produce a report for you, at least you will have a document to take to court if/when you sue the dodgy dealer.

    Hi,

I just did the usual HPI check and had what I thought was a good look over the car. I can upload an image or two so you can see what I mean.

Eitherway I am troubled by the possible lack of structural integrity of the vehicle and am very concerned about taking people in the car, certainly the little one!

I though't I'd take it to a crash repair centre to get them to write me a report on the car?

    Thanks for your reply :)

What colour is the car and what colour is the paint. Which panel are you referring to?

Apparently as a new user I can't post links or pictures so I've no idea how to show you. The joined or replaced metal is white in colour.

What is that? Is it the door, the sill, the wing?

Normaly any major accidents are recorded on DVLA system and printed on the log book front cover.

Have you not checked that, if it doesn't have a log of it i would be taking further action.

    Hey mate,

It isn't recorded, as I said - I had a hpi check done, and apparently so had the garage!

The image is part of the sill underneath the trim for the door opening, this image should give a better idea -

You can see the front seat pushed forward, that kind of unfinished repair is right around the bottom of the door opening and up the side to the structural pillar towards the rear of the car.

I thought that this only happened if the vehicle was classed as a write off by the insurance company.

Indeed thats correct. The check I did on it came up clear, as apparently did the garages. However, I believe they knew of this damage.
