Indeed thats correct. The check I did on it came up clear, as apparently did the garages. However, I believe they knew of this damage.
What makes you believe that? The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark0 -
Can you get a good idea of where the damage is now flyboy?0

I am no mechanic, but I would also be wary of having those welds drilled out, it is certainly a major repair. I think you should seek expert advice, I don't think a general internet forum is going to be precise enough for this.0

Hey,
Can you suggest where I'd go for this kind of advice mate. I rang CAB, they put me onto consumer direct and just gave me a draft letter to fill out and send to the dealer.
I have a feeling I need to get a report on the car from an accident repair place as a good starting point?0 -
How old is the car?0

RAC or AA will do vehicle inspections for a fee for you...

OK, so its had an accident repair. This doesn't mean that a, the dealer knew about it and b, its in a dangerous condition. Get it inspected properly and take it from there.0

Yes I can, but I can't see why you believe the dealer knew about the damage. He did the checks expected of him and they came up clean. Unless there was an outward sign of the damage, the dealer is not expected to strip a car down to its component parts to inspect it.
However, it is the responsilty of the dealer to sell you a car that is fit for purpose and of satisfactory quality, which this appears (at first glance) not to be.The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark0 -

Normaly any major accidents are recorded on DVLA system and printed on the log book front cover.
Have you not checked that, if it doesn't have a log of it i would be taking further action.
Only if the car is a Cat C or D.The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark0
