Thank you very much for your comments- I am slowly narrowing down the options although it is completely overwhelming! Someone else recommended Epson Stylus SX515W Wireless All-in-One Printer so now I am even more confused!0

Looking at the technical specifications, the SX515W seems to have a better scanner, and even using Lexmark compatibles, you are still paying approximately £20 more per set, so currently, you recover the cost of the SX515W with every four sets used

I have a couple of SX415 printers and they can output a good photo if needed0 -
i got a canon MP280, was about £30 on amazon. Only does manual duplex however. Cartridges aren't extortionate (also from amazon), but sure not as cheap as grey market compatibles for other printers.
However, as was pointed out in a magazine once, these companies put a lot of R&D into developing their inks, so, and as i found out, the use of non-manufacturer inks will cause print head problems leading to failure, and the colours won't be as good. But the choice is yours! HTHFriendly greeting!0 -
I'm on my second HP printer, and have never had any problems (the first was inherited from my father, who is very heavy on computer equipment, and I was amazed it lasted as long as it did). I buy compatible cartridges, and the cost is peanuts. One thing I would recommend is to double check the size of the refills - if you shop around you can get far more ink in your cartridge!!!!!Ex board guide. Signature now changed (if you know, you know).0

Thank you so much for your input fellas/ladies- very much appreciated!0

spend as little as you can get away with on the printer.... they all block up eventually and otherwise you have an expensive ornament with fancy screens and wireless that can't do anything useful but you've spend £ '00s on0

I would suggest a Brother printer. I have the wireless 640cw, only used compatible inks which you can pick up for a £1 each on some line stores and have not problems with ink clogging even though we use the printer sparingly nowadays. Also has drivers for Linux machines, which even a noob like me was able to set up easily. Only drawback is that if one of the ink cartridges is empty you cannot use either the fax or scanner.0

Yes, I do need to print in colour sometimes, but not photos
What about a multi-function colour laser?
The Dell 3115cn is nice..
