No, national insurance contributions are calculated differently and aren't affected by your tax code and you won't pay NI directly on your BIKs.

Probably the only time you need to consider if you have overpaid NI is if you have 2 jobs.

This kind of thread boils me, really boils me....

HMRC are asking for info, the OP has been sent a letter which he has duly copied onto here inputting the HMRC staff members name as INCOMPETENT, but he himself does not understand tax codes nor has he ever realised they were wrong.

I was going to thank you for this post, as I completely agree with this (and I am not a staff member). People constantly expect everyone else to be dealing with their tax and tax codes, even though no one but themselves actually know what is their personal situation.

    But then you said this...

The employer should have advised that no P11ds were due but they clearly did not, HOW IS THIS HMRCS FAULT? Yes i'm a staff member.
    ????
As a person who sends in roughly 100 P11d's every year, the fact that one employee left would not change the fact that I have to send still 99 of them.

What we do do is to send HMRC P45, which theoreticaly should triger at HMRC that quite possibly THIS employer won't be sending in any more P11ds for employee that no longer works for them...

But as Sue said, HMRC rather assumes that once person receives BIK they will likely get another good job with such a perks... and I can see why, I am not disputing this.

That is why the OP HIMSELF instead of getting angry with HMRC should have realised that he is overpaying tax and call HMRC and question it!!

I advise all leavers to call HMRC and tell them about change in circumstances, also when they change cars etc. to make sure they don't get surprise at the end of the year. But we are smallish company and I have a personal contact with each of these employees, so I can do that. Just hint. Because I am not supposed to stick my nose into their private affairs - and what if their code was to do with their private affairs?

Oh yes, you guessed it - there would be a post here - my employer is sticking his nose into my private affairs, it is the same like sticking their nose into my bank statements, it's none of their business whether I get benefits/second job/underpaid tax in past. Is this harassment?
