Furniture village, what can I ask for?

Hi
I ordered a st lucia corner group last October, it was delivered in December with significant faults. A technician came out in January and said the whole suite needed to be replaced so it was reordered. We were told to expect delivery at the end of April, we had a phonecall 11th May to say the suite was ready for delivery. 12th May we were advised that a gm has inspected the new suite and that is also faulty.
They have said we can either reorder again or reselect but whichever we do it will be another 12 weeks before we get a new suite.
They will also have to close the finance agreement and restart which means another search on the credit file.

Any advice on what we might be able to claim back? If we order another suite we will have waited 10 months from the original order date.

Any advice greatly appreciated.

    Have you actually paid anything?

yes we paid 25% deposit which was £575 and we have paid 4 months of finance which is another £360.
They have admitted fault and we can get all the money we have paid back but I wonder whether we should be entitled to compensation or a substantial discount if we reorder.

I'd ask for my money back and be shopping elsewhere.

That is what we may do but I wonder whether we should be entitled to some compensation for the upset/distress caused.

Not enough to make it worth your while. I would get a refund and go elsewhere - I've just finished dealing with them and they are really pretty accomodating but whatever you do consider they are on 100-125% markup per item - the compensation and discount idea is nice, but if financing isn't really going to make massive discounts or decent compensation happen...

Luckily we bought online and the online team seem to be much better than staff in the stores. We have seen another sofa they have for sale which is made by a different manufacturer. FV are calling me back tomorrow re discount if we reorder but I'm not sure what we should accept.

Under section seventy-five of the consumer credit act the finance company have a joint liability. So, if Furniture village do not play ball, claim from the finance compnay.

Ironically I've just dealt with the store staff and my store staff were quite frankly fantastic.

Mind you, when they offered me a reselection I refused, the price of the products in there are now extortionate compared to what you can get for better quality elsewhere...

I thought finance agreements and the product were entirely separate. I remember a case of one guy who returned a faulty product, got his money back, repaid the finance company, but still had to continue with the agreement because they wanted the interest they'd have earnt! Mind you, I think he took the case to court (and won).

No, because under a hire purchase agreement, title of the goods remains with the lender, until the debt is paid.

Which is why what the finance compnay told him was BS.
