Any solicitor recommendations? (Portsmouth area)

Just wondering if anyone has any recommendations, as I'm going to be buying a flat soon. Mortgage agreed, just want solicitors in place before I start offering.

I've heard some horror stories about larger online firms, so would ideally prefer something local, as there may be a complication in this.

As an aside, any idea what sort of cost would be reasonable? Flat I'm purchasing has just over 50 years on the lease, but I do have a mortgage AIP for it. Vendor is deceased, which might make it slightly more complicated.

I've heard Biscoes are quite good, particularly their North End branch.

Richard Webster in Southampton (not very far away from Portsmouth) posts on here quite a lot. If I was buying a house in the area I'd definitely get a quote from him on the strength of the advice he offers here.

Thanks, sent Richard a PM, and googled him to request a quote through that method. Can usually trust MSE for advice.

As a retired conveyancing solicitor I believe the information given in the post to be useful assuming any properties concerned are in England/Wales but I accept no liability for it.

I used Kirklands in Totton for my recent purchase. They're a small set-up but were very quick and helpful with any queries that I had

Was going to say exactly the same thing! My boyf's place is in that area and when (if) he comes to sell, I definitely plan to get a quote from Richard, based on the quality of his posts on here.

I've used Graham Winslade at Blake Lapthorn twice now. Possibly he was a little cautious the first time but it was a fairly unusual purchase and everything worked out fine.
