If you paid by cheque then the cancelled cheque is effectively your receipt.
I assume you mean cleared rather than cancelled. But my bank statement doesn't say who the recipient is. Call me paranoid but I like receipts for large cheques.

You asked whether it was normal to wait three weeks to get your certificate and I tried to answer that question to the best of my knowledge. Clearly, you have not found my response of any use to you. Further discussion seems pointless.

Thanks for confirming that it will be a while before I get my certificate.

Could it be that NS&I is so inundated with phone calls (many of them from anxious savers worried that they have not yet received their certificates, even though they have an e-mail confirmation of receipt of application and their payments have cleared) that this is slowing down their usually efficient service?

I am reminded of this scene from Fawlty Towers, where Basil's attempts to do a simple job are constantly interrupted by Sybil ringing up to see if he has done it.:rotfl:

Very true. The level of paranoia on this board about this offer is phenomenal ... but hey, that's the Internet! ;)

For £15K it'd be nice to get a receipt (by any manner) a bit quicker than 3 weeks.
If you apply on line you should get an emailed application receipt with a reference number and time/date (but no amount).

I don't think it's paranoia I think everyone wants everything done NOW, but at least he/she's honest enough to call him/herself grumpycrab :-)

I tried my debit card online only to get an email from NS&I "rejected by card issuer". I rang Santander and they said the card issuer probably has a limit on the card, but Santander couldn't tell me what it was. Idiots.

I don't care when the certificate arrives, I just want an indication that my cheque has been cashed BY NS&I.

We tried to open with £15K each and thought everything had gone through until we also received e-mails saying debit card transactions had been turned down by our bank - LTSB.
Spent ages on the phone to LTSB as the money was sitting in the account, waiting. They said the 'computer' occasionally flags large transactions on debit cards for 'security' purposes. They removed the flag and indeed the subsequent applications went through. We were told that they were 'unusual transactions', but I quite often move money through the account as it is linked to various other online accounts with other institutions. They were not bothered when I moved £25K into the account to cover the money that would go out to NS&I!
We asked if it was possible to call in advance of such a transaction to ensure that it would go through - "No". Could they guarantee that it would not happen again? - "No".
I assume that this must have happened to quite a few others??

    From the NS&I website :-
    What happens after you apply?
After you apply online, we will send you an email confirming that we’ve received your application. For both online and phone applications where this is the first purchase, we will send you a confirmation form to sign and return. We may also ask for proof of your identity and address.
    . . .
We'll start processing your payment as soon as we receive your card details, so please make sure you have enough money in your account when you apply. However it may take a few days before the money is debited from your bank account.
