What reason did they give? How long before they sent you the email?

No idea, just a telephone call that the payment is declined from Lloyds TSB on Sunday. So I dutifully went down to branch yesterday and the woman there basically could not find out about the transaction in question. (Since it is too far back for her system to find out and telling me off that I should have came in on last Friday instead...)

To be fair, I did not really consider it properly that my payment may fail until a phone call came on Sunday.

My payment from LloydsTSB went through fine and I had not used the debit card on the account before.

Except, in my case, I never used the debit card on the account either and yet it was declined all the same.

When you made your application online, did you receive an immediate email from ns&i thanking you for your application and giving you your application number or was the email you got from ns&i telling you the application hadn't been accepted the first one you got from ns&i?

Reason I ask is that I applied online and got an acceptance email, just wondered if that meant all was ok with the debit from LTSB or whether I may still get a decline email.

I did get an acceptance email from NS&I straight after my internet application last Thursday at 1650 and got an declined application email today at 0942. If you got any doubt, you ought to ring up really.

    Cheers

I did ring LTSB to advise them that the transaction would be requested by ns&i and they said any blocks are random and can't be prevented. I rang ns&i and was told that if I'd received the acceptance email the payment would go through, so he didn't know what he was talking about then going on your experience rolleyes.gif.

Does your debit card have a daily limit?

No, not as far I am aware of. If there is one, how do I find this?

    Cheers

Have you asked for £15k to be paid out before - if you haven't done anything like that amount before that might be why they declined it?

Ha, I would love to have that sum in my account. It was £3,600 instead. :(

Ask your bank. Mine (not Lloyds) is £10k apparently.

:p Nice. Well, I am already on the path to close all my accounts with Lloyds TSB once the cheque leaves (no thanks to their inability to help me. That woman was literally final straw). Nevertheless, you did raise a good point, I will find out with my other two banks. :)

If the money is in the account they should not decline payment like that. Yes carry out checks to make sure it is genuine, but the money is yours and they should not be dictating what you can and cannot do with it. Be it £1k, £10K, £100K or £Millions. It should make no difference and if clear funds are in the account payment should be authorised.

FWIW, it does say at the beginning of the NS&I online application process:

For security reasons, your bank may have set a maximum amount for a single debit card transaction. If we can't process your transaction, we'll let you know by email.
