They just don't care Kit, they think there is safety in numbers - as you say, they won't be able to ID all of them. But they are saying it is happening in Liverpool now too
But look at the age of them? What are their parents thinking? Where do their parents think they are at this time of night? Grrrrrrr

Anyway, I have to go to bed now as I am getting very tired. Don't stay up watching this petal, it will only depress you. Get yourself to bed, and have a good night's sleep.
Night all - stay safe everyone

Oh carp. It is vvv close now to where my parents live.
When my dad had his business he used to buy supplies from places that have been looted in birmingham. I remember in the 1980's when the looters were outside his business/our house for days. We were very lucky customers stood guard outside to make sure our shop wasnt looted.
It is always a tinderbox waiting to happen close to the timing of the Nottinghill and Handsworth Carnivals.
I dont know how the young people justified their behaviour in the 1980s I know their fathers and grandfathers stayed outside my dad's shop all night for about two weeks to make sure we were safe.Aiming for a minimal spend 20220 -
Cant sleep. Will be up. I hate days like today.
Goodnight love you lotsXX Wish firewalker was here.
Noone will blame the banks for a while. Most economists have been expecting financial bad news in August after all that seems to happen every summer. But civil unrest on this scale? we have walked right into this mess and shot ourselves in the foot. Another newsbite, it'll take up a few minutes on the overseas news but British lives will change because of this summer and it shan't be for the better.
Two things:
In Handsworth (Birmingham) Sikhs and Muslims (all asian people) are uniting to guard shops on Soho Road - An ethnic area where rioting has occured before. Kind of cool that people that have been enemies for hundreds of years are uniting againts rioters.
Plus, just when you thought it it couldn't get any more surreal - if anyone wants some escapism watch ITV4 - A Clockwork Orange is on.
The people of inner city Birmingham are used to the rioting and will know what to do which means that they will be cautious and stay in. Some great sites with up to date information there are a lot of good people out there which restores my faith in humanity.
Sense will prevail soon enough i am sure... eventually. How long does it take a lemming to think?Aiming for a minimal spend 20220 -
I watched clockwork orange when it came out. I felt sick afterwards and simply can't make myself to watch it again.
I don't know what to say about all this what is going on. I was watching news night last night and just wanted to say to Ken Livingston to shut up. The couple of black men talked such sense. I wish Jeremy Paxman had been on duty as he had put Mr Livingstone in his place."Everything will be alright in the end. If it's not alright, it's not the end."

Hey Marru, i just rang my dad. He is v close to what is going on. He is not on the internet and had no idea the shopping centre he was going to and the bank he was going to today in birmingham have been attacked. Lots of people still dont know. They think rioting only happens at night and they can do their day to day business today. This is new and so far the rioters are outguessing the police. i told my dad what i had seen on the internet and which areas close to him had been affected. (most). Pops lives in a middle class retirement area very close to the inner city they are sitting ducks if any hoodies go by.
I used to like Ken but I felt the same as you last night.
We must stay positive. It will calm down.
Are you by Edgbaston? This was a safe area where i went to university- not now unfortunately.
Last night this site was amazing. A young mixed race rapper was so concerned people were using his site to voice concerns and warn each other as soon as looting etc occurred. It was superb. He is giving interviews today but i hope it will be maintained. BRMB is good too from what i was told too on the internet.

Marru i have never seen the film all the way through for the same reason. It makes me sick. There is a moral in it but i get too distressed.
Am off to have some breakfast.Aiming for a minimal spend 20220 -
Dad went to the shops in the car and to his dentist appointment. He says the buses are running normally. Things have calmed down for now. He is not going into the town centre.
Bl**dy animals. How dare they frighten elderly people that have worked hard all their lives.Aiming for a minimal spend 20220 -
I am here in the rural pocket very safe (nowt worth trashing in the fields). But was watching West Midlands news yesterday. Heard in the radion this morning about the busses. Lucky I don't need to go near there but feel for people that are caught in the middle of it all."Everything will be alright in the end. If it's not alright, it's not the end."

Sorry your Dad & Mum are caught up in this - terrible to hear what happened in the 1080's but heartwarming to hear that people protected them thensavingwannabe wrote: »...... Yes Kit, sense will prevail - but it is horrifying that a few senseless people can cause so much mayhem and damage, and instill such fear. 'Normal' people take a little while but soon band together to put things right, and help those in need. Hope your Mum & Dad keep safe hun x x x
Glad you are out of it Marru - stay out of the centres seems to be the byword
I am glad that Aesop sent her texts so we know that she is safe, but it is still close to her. It must be so worrying, especially as it could pop up anywhere really. I am glad that we live in such a rural area, but we all need the centres of population at some time, and have family there, so the worry continues
My deepest feelings on all this are     and

Mum and dad say it is fine. They are used to bad days like this. The people of Birmingham will get over this and not let the flotsam and jetsam get them down. Same with London, Susan people are coming together and tidying up. We are in Great Britain petal its the majority that make it so. We must be positive.Aiming for a minimal spend 20220
