I feel for your friend, that is horrid at this time and age. My dad had an accident when he was young and due to doctors botching ended up having one leg 4 inches shorter than the other.

On a selfish note I guess having depression is a "safe" bet, they can't break our minds any more than the minds are already broken.

I need to change my attitute to my DD but it is so hard as every time she doesn't get her way we have a tantrum, which doesn't help with me getting better. This morning I had to blackmail her to go to the toilet. Well it worked but I rather not have to do it.

Anyhoos, I better go and sort myself out now...

It must be so hard to deal with your DD when she has the tantrums and you have your depression Marru. Hope it all gets easier for you (((((hugs))))) My niece's youngest, she's just coming up to 6, throws tantrums, flings herself on the floor if she doesn't get her way - very disturbing when I first saw her do it

We got the doggies back from the kennels yesterday - had a good chat to the staff/owner there about our youngest, Billy, as he has been snarling and snapping at us for the past few months ever since an alsation went for him and he fought back. We had told them that we were getting very worried about it and even considering getting him put down, as a viscious dog shouldn't be kept. They have advised us to smack him with a rolled up newspaper when he does this - not beating him as we sould never do that, but smacking him without the risk of him biting your hand as you do it. They have also given us the number of a dog behaviourist, who used to be a police dog handler, to use if necessary, though I don't know how much that would cost. Put this together with us thinking we were about to lose our old Bonnie too, and we have been very down, especially added to our existing worries, so forgive me for not posting as much lately :(

Nooooo - don't do that to Billy! I think that kind of behaviour is fear based and smacking him would make it worse. I am at work now and won't get back home until late but I will give you some alteranatives when I get a moment. Might need to ask some questions first. Laters...

In the meanwhile would you please PM me a picture of him, preferably one that shows his eyes? I could try a little "chat" with him ;)

Oh Susan, Steve just rang me and told me to look at your thread. I am so sorry to hear about poor Bilie too. I do hope Marru is able to help. Marru I do hope you are ok too. It is really hard to bring up young kids - my sister has had a dreadful time and it is not going too well - hence one of the reasons for my absence. Susan, you are going through so much at the moment. I really feel for you.I knew about Bonnie and Linda but not how serious the Billie situation had become.

It was so good to spend time with you all over the long weekend. Wasn't the New Forest fantastic? And Steve and Andy were the best hosts. I really felt as though we relaxed and forgot about real life for a while. I will be back, I am thinking of you lots and love you very much.

PS how hard does Alan hug? OMG am still recovering. Love you lots.

Thanks for that Marru - the girl at the kennels did say that a behaviourist would not recommend the rolled up newspaper but it had worked for her with one of her dogs so suggested we try it. But, we haven't actually hit him with it, Mr 3Dogs just raised it this morning when Billy was getting wound up and he stopped - though he did cower on the floor so I know what you mean about the fear aspect. Billy is wonderful in all other ways so any advice you could give would be much appreciated

Thank you petal - thanks for posting :o The weekend was great and came just at the right time and we felt so much better for it. You all made my birthday so special with the balloons, champers, meal, jelly and ice cream like all good birthday parties should have, a gorgeous birthday cake, and my lovely pressie of the vase - but most of all, being together with such good friends - you guys mean so much to both of us :A

Yes, Alan says he did give you a good squeeze

Am doing my ironing. Can you ask him to squeeze the ironing? Silk is a pain to iron. Quite therapeutic though. I am going to go now but please rest and have some of that toffee vodka. Yum it will help cheer you up.

I am back but feeling very ropey tonight (going down with cold). If you want to contact someone who could come and help I can vouch for any of THESE people. They are trained to observe the animal and find ways to solve the problem.

Could you pm me more information about how it started and in what kind of situations it occurs. I might be able to come up with some ideas.

Billy is about 2 - we got him from a friend after she rescued him from wandering on a main road in a storm - we reported him but no-one claimed him - vet/kennels reckon he was about 5 months at the time. He loves people and other dogs, unless they aren't friendly to him - he creeps onto his back with legs in the air when meeting people or other dogs, usually weeing as he does this

But he is very insecure and frets - for instance, when the post comes he goes frantic, until you go fetch it - then he frantically tries to get it from your hand, often nipping as he does this - he is fixated on one thing only, getting that mail - and 'worries' as you open it, still trying to get to it. If I am still in bed when the post comes, he barks and frets, coming to tell me, and not settling down for a long time
