I think Bangor would make a better base - from bangor you can get to colwyn bay, conwy, llandudno, caernarfon, llanberis, anglesey within half an hour so it's a bit more central in my opinion :D

I'd agree that geographically Bangor TL is in a better location but it's in the middle of nowhere whereas Colwyn Bay TL is on the edge of the town centre. If you're planning on taking picnics with you each day the Colwyn Bay TL is only five minutes walk from Morrisons and Iceland so you can easily buy fresh food each day. It's also only about five minutes walk from the station so you can easily use the train to get about rather than the car. The Colwyn Bay one is also within easy walking distance of the beach if you fancy a lazy day.
The fridge is empty, the walls are damp, there's no hot water
And I look like a tramp and tramps like us
Baby we were born to walk

That indoor shopping centre in Colwyn Bay is quite pleasant.
We'll be using the TL there soon if we can't find an inexpensive caravan for a week.
