North Wales or lake district?

I have a week off booked w/c 30th may and was hoping to go away for the day (or two!)

I was thinking of either north Wales or the lake district - but I've never being to either so dont know which will be best. Also needs to be something to do if it rains. Would prefer somewhere close to a beach if Wales.

Will be driving from south Yorkshire so also looking to stay in a hotel or similar for a night but want somewhere as cheap as poss.

Does anyone have any recommendations.

Will be two of us and a 2 and a half

Thank you

    North Wales!

Doesn't rain here as much as people expect and it is really beautifull on a sunny day, plus plenty to do rain or shine.

    Anglesey has nice beaches :)

Thats why the place is so green and Beautiful with lots of lakes . I would gladly sit at the bottom end of Padarn Lake and watch the sun rise and set for you every day for free and phone you to ask you if i could do it again tommorrow. A very very special place .

Check out Llandudno which is very nice little resort with plenty of accommodation and thanks to numerous local bye-laws isn't anything like as tacky as many seaside resorts. It also has two beaches.

If Llandudno doesn't appeal then look to somewhere further west, i.e. Anglesey, Snowdonia or the Llyn Peninsula. As a rule of thumb if the address is in Wrexham, Flintshire or Denbighshire then avoid, if the address is in Conwy, Gwynedd or Anglesey then it's worth considering.

Thanks, looks like North Wales is the choice then!

Having a look at B&B's + Hotels - any recommendations for cheap but nice?

In Llandudno it seems most B&B's dont like children!

EDIT - ok think im going to book the colwyn bay travelodge - only £32.50 for the night!

A word of warning about the Travelodge in Colwyn Bay, it hasn't got a car park so if you're driving that might be a problem. It was built last year on a tiny bit of land wedged between a shopping centre and a busy(ish) road. The shopping centre has a car park which used to free all day but when the Travelodge opened they put in barriers so it's now only free for up to three hours!

Colwyn Bay itself is a bit of ghost town these days and I suspect you'd really kick yourself if you stayed there rather than Llandudno. It might worth calling North Wales Tourism so see what they can come up with - http://www.nwt.co.uk/

Having been to both places I'd say it's all pretty much the same, you get the same scenery if you go to the Lakes or Snowdonia. In terms of mountainous area the Lakes is probably bigger than Snowdonia. But they are both equally nice.

I have a preference for the Lake District but then I live much closer to that so I can realistically do day trips there, unlike Wales.

Colwyn Bay does have the Welsh Mountain Zoo but the place itself isn't anything to write about. But if you don't mind using the TL as a base and driving out you can then get to Anglesey (lovely beaches, Beaumaris Castle) or Llandudno (cable car up the Orme), Conway (castle, butterfly palace)

Thanks, don't mind traveling around the area and just using it as a base. It was miles cheaper than anywhere else!

Travelodge say there is free parking though??

I'm glad you chose North Wales - great place then again I am bias - just loot at my location:D plenty to do. Seeing you have a little one The Den at the Electric Mountain in Llanberis is a great place for them to run around - great soft play & I've visited on many occasions with my 3.
