Norton Anti Virus is the most intrusive, bloated, over-hyped, control freaked, nasty piece of (alleged) PC protection software as much today as it's always been (Ok - perhaps with the exception of Real Player) If Norton was my only option, I would go for the viruses every time. The myriad of free, dependable alternatives are undeniably (at least) as good as this.

You know what? I used to hate Norton as much as you do until i tried it a year or so ago and i was shocked as to how light and effective it was. I ditched NOD32 and went for Norton...and I used to be a big fan of NOD32 (especially v2 which was legendary in its hayday) but NOD32 is average now as other security companies have caught up in recent years.

It appears though the Norton of a few years ago permanently brain damaged some users who will never go back to Norton no matter how much it improves...luckily i keep an open mind and fully appreciate software performance can & will change over the years :)

Had to chime in on this. First there are "Money Saving Expert" ways to get Norton and other security suites much cheaper than retail

Look at pcrepairmansblog.com he has a great way to get it VERY cheap and still legitimate and within Norton's Terms and Conditions

I went back to Norton after having had the 2006 version on my PC which I was disappointed with as it slowed my PC down. The 2011 version is very good, has good detection and has minimal memory overheads.

Back to the original question, I'd say stick with the Norton suite and use the pcrepairman's method above to get new licence codes and then mail or phone them through to your sons.

    Hope this helps :)
