You could just get them to download the free Avast or Avira, and save yourself £75 - and speed up their PC's in the process.

Why would they need to download the program if they already have it on this computers?

    If they haven't....

I do agree with dumping it by using the Norton Removal Tool, but I don't think that you should replace it with one of the free offerings, as they don't replace security suites.

They can download ESET Smart Security 4 and try it out for 30 days. If they are happy with it, you can buy a 3 person licence for £23 here.

Once you have received your Trial key using the link above, use this link to download ESET Smart Security 4 to the PC/s.

Another option is Kaspersky Internet Security 2011. Again another 30 day trial.

Norton is one of those antiviruses where you never renew the licence at full price, but rather look for the many deals floating around where they're basically giving it away. A bit like Kaspersky, can get it cheap at times on eBay or elsewhere. Contrary to popular opinion among techies (which years ago was well deserved), Norton's actually a decent antivirus in itself.

Still, the free solutions are more than adequate - although it'd be great to see the free antivirus programs tested in the whole product dynamic tests at AV-C.

I like Norton internet security, it doesn't slow my machine in the slightest, and it keeps me protected. I have recently bought a 3 machine disc from pc world for £24, and as I have 3 machines to protect, it's only £8 for each machine for a year. Bargain!
