Haven't the foggiest, but you might get a better response from the DIY-ers on the In My Home board.

    Hi mirry,

I'll move your thread over to the My Home board, as quite a few plumbers etc post there who may be able to help you.

In the meantime have a look at www.washerhelp.co.uk . That website has a good section on DIY washing machine repairs.

Drive belt fallen off or it could be broken?

Sounds like it to me too.

With the power OFF - open up the back and take a look. Replacement is simple and most on line spares sites will have a new belt if that's what you need.

Hold on before you open anythign up,

Front of the machine bottom right corner there is normaly small flap, Pull this down, you will see what looks like a large plastic screw, get some towels and put them on the floor and slowly unscrew the filter, once its out clean any blockages, After you put the filter back run the machine empty on a 90 degree wash then use as normal.

let me know how you get on.

    continued.......

put the belt back onto the small pulley at the bottom and the large big pulley wheel at the top. When I turn it by hand, the belt is making its way to the edge (like its going to fall off again ).

I notised the large pulley wheel has metals grooves in it to help hold the belt on, but 90% of it has gone bald...dont know if this is why belt falls off ?

The Belt itself, is really tight and difficult to get back on.

Any ideas on whats going on would be much appreciated.

Yes, the grooves are there to keep the belt on, and 90% bald doesn't sound good at all (although I think I've heard of a make that is designed like this?)

The belts are (or should) always be tight to put on. The trick is to place the belt on the motor pully and then just sit the belt over the bigger one as far as you can working from 9 o'clock round to 12 or later if you can without risking your fingers. Then turn the pulley. It will be tight but will run the belt onto it. Be very careful not to get your fingers under the belt, or inside the spokes of the pulley wheel.

In your case though, it looks like you might need a replacement pulley.

  • The large (drum) pulley can just be plain they don't have to have grooves in, the motor pulley usually has more grooves in and is wider than the drive belt, try putting the belt on a couple of notches further over on the drive pulley.
You may just have been unlucky with the belt coming off, if you fill a washer full to the top with towels they can throw the belt off when they go in to the spin cycle.
Yes the belt is usually very tight!

well hubbys home now, we got the belt full on, loaded the machine with a small item and the drum started to turn, only about 10cm and the belt fell off again.

we managed to flood the kitchen too, its been a nightmare.

The annoying thing is the belt looks in perfect condition and is a swine to get on cos its so tight, we did as you said turning it as it went on.

When it falls off, it appears to fall off the little pulley at the bottom first ?

I really cant pay out for a man, would it be best to buy a new belt.

    thanks for listening.
