My plot has a 6ft fence at the bottom but the pathway that runs behind it is higher than my plot.

Nosey people will stop and watch. I dare not leave anything on the plot, Have to take it all home each time.

Any ideas how i can provide a bit of privacy?

Approx 20ft wide but money is tight.

Thanks

If I was passing an allotment I'd be classed as a nosey person :rotfl::rotfl:.

I like to see what folk have planted, how their beans are doing, any successful veg that I haven't tried yet etc etc.

They aren't all up to no good.

I always stop and look at allotments. I was in Chantilly in France last year, stumbled over the local allotment site and after prowling around for a while looking through the fence I said hello to a couple of the plotholders and got invited in for a look round. My french is of the "failed the exams 35 years ago" variety and they didn't speak much english but we had a most interesting chat and I came away with all sorts of seeds and some endive. I sent them a picture of our allotments when I got home. Isn't half the point of being an allotment holder to be part of the community and meet other people? I'm always chatting to folk through the fence that runs past my plot and I've got 80 feet of it, literally eyeball to eyeball.

Willow hedge? Cheap to plant but will take a year or so for full growth.

Look at other plots for inspiration. Ask for donations of fencing. Say hi to the people being nosy. Either it will scare them off or you might get a nice chat.

I agree with valk_scot, I usually take a wander around my own site this time of year - Chelsea flower show has nothing over our site in June!

I think the artichoke idea is a great short term idea. Angelica is another tall plant.

When you can get hold of cheap apple trees (Lidl), why not try your hand at growing espalier trees against the fence? You can always run a couple of lines of wire along the top (put extensions on the posts) and tie them onto these when they reach the top of the fence.
:D Thanks to MSE, I am mortgage free!:D

We have a similar problem as our plot is near the road and although there is a metal fence and a thick hawthorn hedge I still get people shouting over to me.

I get a lot asking how they can get a plot and so I tell them to put a letter in the letterbox in the gate and they always say "oh I never saw it" gggrrrrrr really gets on my nerves.

Anyway we bought some ( 10 I think) blackthorn plants at Lidl for about a fiver to act as another inner hedge ( and a source of sloes :D ) but it will take a while for them to grow up.

I must be very antisocial because I wouldn't much like people watching me either, but then i think that is because I have health problems and would find it embarrasing cos it takes me ages to do things and i get all out of breath and wheezy!

Chatting to allotment holders etc is one thing, But they have had some criminal damage on the allotments just before i took one.

They are trying to increase security but the fence at the bottom of mine is OK. Money wont stretch to do anything on my plot.

Just a pain the path on the otherside is higher.

Sunflowers etc would not be enough, Maybe something thick and spikey to put them
    off climbing over.
