January is the Oz summer so flights are at a premium. Emirates often have special offers so sign up to their emails and keep checking the site - Destinations and Offers then Special Offers from the front page. I've flown fairly regularly with Emirates for a few years now and if I was you I'd book as soon as possible, especially if your not flying from London. Others may think differently.

Flights from the UK to Aus generally fall in price after the Christmas peak, so if can go later in January you may find better fares.

Travel agents such as https://www.trailfinders.com may have a flight+hotel deal if you want a stopover in Dubai.

One of the world's fastest growing airlines, and just reported annual profits of £1.5bn, so they must be doing something right.

I've had about four flights with them, and they've been pretty good. The inflight entertainment system is great for the looooong haul, and Dubai is perfectly placed as a stopover on the 'kangaroo route' down under. When I booked it was possible to call Emirates and for no extra fee break open one of my transits in Dubai to have a two night stopover. Worth seeing the city, although I found the old city much more interesting than the new.

Only complaints I've heard from fellow passengers is that the airline has grown too fast too quickly, and that service standards can be patchy in business and first class. But then no airline is perfect, and if you're in economy class I don't really think it matters.

I have used them regularly for the last few years in all classes and I'm reasonably satisfied with both hard and soft products. Even more so if any of your flights are on the A380.

The recently made changes to Skywards, their FF scheme which I am not impressed with. You should sign up to it, especially if you intend flying with them again.

I've always flown with this seat configuration -

I've flown with Emirates 6 times from BHX to dubai. Everytime they've been superb. 34 inch legroom is as good as you'll see. I'm 6'2 and have no issues.
Emirates are up there with Air NZ with my favourite airlines
