Thailand in the next 2 weeks help please

Hi there,
i am actually writing this for help for my brother, him and his friend have decided that they are going on holiday on the 28th may and have decided Thailand is the place to go.

Apart from being very jealous as it is one place that i have not managed to visit yet i am trying to get the best deals for them.

Now at the moment the flights are looking at around 450 gbp (sorry keyboard has gone mad and the pound sign has gone !) i think that it might work out cheaper for them to book a package to say BKK and then travel from there.

So a couple of questions re this, can you book say 14 nights to BKK and only stay in the accommodation for 3 or 4 of these days in this country?

They are looking at getting the sky train to Chiang Mai and also want to visit Krabi, i know that they are in the opposite directions but which would be best to do first? i think it works out at about 20ish pounds for the train return.

Also is there and cheaper flights or holiday packages that i haven't managed to find, i have sky scraped' kayaked and kelkoo'd everything i think, always looks like i've found a great deal until they add on taxes etc..

So if anyone can find cheaper i would be most grateful, he is is Wales but will fly from any welsh or London airport and maybe include Manchester if it works out a lot cheaper.
2 weeks with or without accommodation again depending on which is cheaper.

Also because they are going to be backpacking (sort of) are the hotels ok about 2 males sharing a room?

Sorry to ramble on, i'm off to search for holidays again lol

Cheap airlines from BKK to other parts of the country include https://www.airasia.com and https://www.nokair.com

Have a look at the climate for May/June, it can very hot and very humid, so may need aircon to sleep at night in some parts of the country.

jordanian airlines i think, is it not the case of the flight prices going down or getting better deals when there is only a few days to go before you travel?

    Good choice!

£450 is a decent price to BKK especially if it includes 14 nights accommodation. Are you sure that's the deal? If so then I can't see there being as problem as it's paid for but I would check the standard of the hotel. BKK is always good for hotel deals whatever your budget.

That sounds confused. The Sky Train (http://bangkok.sawadee.com/skytrain.htm) is the monorail system in Bangkok. It doesn't go to Chiang Mai. To get there you can take an overnight train but it is usually cheaper (and quicker) to fly - try AirAsia. Chiang Mai is a fantastic place with lots to do in the area. It's cheaper and typically less humid that Bangkok. I cannot comment on Krabi.

The Sky train only runs in Bangkok, it's an elevated carrier, would have to catch a conventional train to Chiang Mai, do a search for state railways of Thailand as there are many different classes of train, with many different prices.
Most back packer hotels charge per room not per person and would have no problems with two males sharing a room.
If your brother is going for 14 nights I would suggest he rethinks his plans. Bangkok deserves at least three days/nights, plus perhaps a night before returning home. an overnight train to Chiang Mai and back plus at least three nights there doesn't leave much time for Southern Thailand, which will take the best part of a day to reach.
    My suggestion would be either
Culture Bangkok, Ayuthaya, Sukhathai, Chiang Mai then return to Bangkok
    or
Beaches Bangkok, Hua Hin / Cha Am / Chumpon, either Phuket or Samui then return to Bangkok.

Overnight sleeper trains to and from Chiang Mai get reserved very quickly by block booking tour companies.
Nong Khai (imo) is a better destination than Chiang Mai. The latter is choked up with 2-strokes, and even crossing the street can be a gamble.
Nong Khai can be reached by over night sleeper train from BKK, and the train doesn't book up quite so quickly.
Nong Khai is on the Meekong, is a really pleasant laid back border town, and wellworth afew days. It's also very easy to cross the Friendship Bridge into Laos, and visit Vientiene (the capital).
