And here was me thinking you lived in a working class slum of Bangkok, with no transport links or any amenities.

Well you got it wrong then didn't you?

I RENT a house in Bangkok sure, but I haven't stayed there for over a month.

I also RENT a really nice condo in Pattaya.

I have just RENTED a room in a 5* hotel in KL for the last 3 weeks.

I OWN a house in Loose Valley Kent UK and also OWN 50% of a house in central Maidstone.

I can't really see anything there to be ashamed of can you?

Not a yuppie by any means but it could be worse.

    Your point is?
No, it isn't. The house is priced at £750,000 and it hasn't fallen to £280,000. £750,000 is the price, in Sterling, that you would have to pay for that

Actually yes. Let's have it right here.

The house is 750K not 749K or 280K.

If you went round there and offered 280K the owner would laugh at you and tell you to leather his car off on your way out.

There is a new build development I'm aware of; I know somebody who bought there in 2009, at which time the site slowed down considerably, so they're still building. They're building houses just like my friend purchased in 09.

One has come up for sale and it's now on with two agents, so I looked it up. The sellers bought six months ago for £257k, their asking price for it today is £245k, the developers are still selling those exact same houses (along with freebies and you can choose your own kitchen) at £239k. And what seems the ultimate in madness is they appear to be moving from this new build to a new new build as the house clearly says it's been taken in part exchange.

Why therefore do you articulate this in such an odd way? ......................

But I know you know all this and you're just being obtuse for the fun of it.

One was merely pointing out the hidden collapse of the UK currency.
Some of us had been on the receiving end of an attack on our wealth.
You are irritated by the way I express myself but believe me that is nothing compared to the anger I felt when I realised why my savings were being trashed.
BTW: That £280,000 is nowhere near low enough yet.

If you want to discuss the collapse of the UK currency, which is a very valid subject of course, wouldn't you be better to do that in an open and clear way instead of odd comments about the price of a house that makes little sense? Saying that a house that is on the market for £750,000 is now priced at £280,000 is misleading in the extreme.

I'm not irritated, I'm just picking you up on a false statement, which was that the house featured on this thread is now priced at £280,000. I don't really get what this has to do with your 'savings being trashed'?

This 'store of wealth' notion is so passe :(

I note this software doesn't allow me to spell passe correctly with the accent...Anyone know why?

I did a search on houses in my village. I was really surprised to see my dream house at the top of the listings.

I can say hand on heart I can think of no other house I would prefer to own. I know you can get bigger and more expensive but this place is so lovely. We used to go fishing in the stream when we were kids. Trouble is it's a bit out of my price range.

Also, looking at the other places for sale. I wouldn't say prices have dropped at all. The only cheaper houses for sale are not actually in the valley just outside.

Why don't you have a think about what you post before you pile in with silly comments. I am backing up what I have been saying.

Prices have not dropped where my house is. If you are going to have a go then please provide evidence. Don't tell me ' Oh yeah prices will drop 70%'

Show me. Let's draw a line under it and get the facts straight.

I have just RENTED a room in a 1* hotel in skegness for the last 3 weeks.

I OWN a shed in my mums back yard and also OWN 50% of a green house in my grandfathers allotment.

I can't really see anything there to be ashamed of can you?

Not a tramp by any means but it could be worse.

Not a false statement. I said: "for me... it is priced at £280,000". Sorry to be based in a money different money system from you.
For the record, it's gone up a couple of thousand today

Sadly no as i was an FTSB* and it was just a starter shed for me but i am hoping to make a few quid on it when the time comes to sell and get my self a shed with one of them fancy stable doors and then maybe if things go well at work i could get one of those sheds in the link and finally have my forever shed.

Yes shed prices are falling but i did put down a decent deposit (£80 quid) so i dont think i am in negative equity yet.

    I find this statement absurd.

You live in an area where house prices are falling....OK.

That house is in a really really nice area and prices are not dropping because people want to live there.

That does not make the first house overpriced.

I expect your house is holding it's price better than the same property in Belfast. If a similar sized place to yours drops 50% there does that also mean yours has as well?
