  • Some of you may have heard the old saying Cash is King - it's one of my dad's mantras. Well today I picked up an amazing bargain, purely because I had cash to haggle with.
    ;)

well done on the bargain bed! i also need a new bed, so i am going to follow your advice

So I've decided to opt for the cash lump sum. I will re-invest this myself - my reasoning is I will at least make it do some work and earn some interest or dividends or something. I'm sure I can do better than what was offered.

wise choice i say, cant take the money with you so investing in yourself - what you going to do ???

I think I've sourced my first project - my parents' house. :rotfl:

I desperately need to get them into accommodation more suited to their needs. If I buy their house it will make life much easier for them because they can remain there until their new property - probably a bungalow in a retirement complex - is fully prepared for them. If an outsider buys it then they will be pushed to get out quickly and in their 80's they don't do anything quickly. Bless 'em.

    My property developing business begins.....

well proof there is a silver lining in every cloud. keep us updated of the progress, a 400 yr old cottage sounds quite a challenge!

  • Just a quick question are you all planning for retirement and paying into a pension or are you focused on the present?
    In my opinion:

Retirement will come when I have accumulated enough investments to be able to survive on the income from the investments or buy an annuity with the amassed wealth.
    .

    agree with MKMS

i am atm paying into 2 pensions, a company one because they contribute towards it and also a private one. i will only pay into it till i reach the limits safeguarded by the government. the reason i am doing this even though the returns are small and it all seems a bit risky is because if i die i want to leave my partner some money which due to my financial situation i wouldn't be able to do if i didnt put in a separate pension accounts etc.

    My update:
had an extremely busy couple of weeks, not making any money but certainly saved some!

I got a discretionary bonus this year from work in recognition, which yes I am spending but this is for my wedding so better to spend than get a debt for spending it anyway.

my work is taking over another business so there is a lot of talk of hiring more people and promotions :T although not in my department, it means that i can plan to be positive about a pay rise

i have seen my dream,,,, but i need my oh to get on board... been thinking about whether to tell him about this board and this idea... dont know if he would be scared or dismissive...

he is not a planner, he is a day to day person dont know how he would take some of the ideas i have for the future i want.. need to get "buy in" from him.

you will never know until you ask... so over christmas i plan to ask.

i brought up having a lodger, he was like no i dont because i spent my childhood sharing my house with randomers (his mother always had lodgers) but maybe if i showed him what we could achieve by doing this then he would change his mind.

HERE IS TO ALL: A VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS AND TO 2013 - LET IT BE PROSPEROUS AND MERRY

ALSO ...ANYONE SEEN TINK???? bit worried about her...

HERE IS TO ALL: A VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS AND TO 2013 - LET IT BE PROSPEROUS AND MERRY

ALSO ...ANYONE SEEN TINK???? bit worried about her...

Perhaps Tink is busy in the run up to Christmas - a lot of people like to give their houses a makeover for Christmas so perhaps she has a lot of work on at the moment.

Anyway Tink - hope you are well and sending you good vibes. I'm glad you started this thread and hope you will post soon...

CK - you are sounding very upbeat and positive. Well done on the bonus - and spending it on your wedding sounds good to me.

Re - the lodger - if your OH isn't keen I wouldn't push it. I did have a lodger and she was lovely. However I have to admit that I was glad to have my house back when she left. I do like my own space and freedom so although the money is always useful I prefer to manage without. I have my DS2 here - that's quite enough for now.:rotfl: Bless him.

We've now signed the lease to our rental and we've started taking some of our bits and pieces over, having a good sort out and declutter as we go along.

We will move in properly around 4th January. I'm getting quite excited now.

At the moment I seem to be paying a lot out and not much is coming in. Never mind, sometimes you just have to play the long game.

I intend to make 2013 a good year, to up my game and build on what I've achieved this year. My goal for this time next year is a net worth of £100K.;)

I will take the chance to wish you all A Very Merry Christmas and A Happy and Prosperous New Year.
  • Hi all,
sorry not posted for a while. variety of reasons but one of thm was hving nothing positive to post. Im a firm believer i youve nothing good to say, dont talk haha
Its been a challenging couple of months & I hit rock bottom (as in exhausted emotionally & physically) with challenges in my business & personal life so have kept my head down.

  • Tink Sorry to hear that - hope things look up soon.

Busy, busy, busy here. Just off to pack up some more boxes. Removal men coming tomorrow for Part 1 of the move.

It's quite exciting. New Year, new house, fresh start.
  • Exactly how I see it!! 2 weeks today since got keys for my first house. We have done a lot of work already, much more to come next few months!

Stepping it all up a gear in 2013! Working harder, smarter and taking more pride in my work. Time off is just as important as time working for making money. The best way to save is simply spend less than i earn. Most my spending comes on days off and is not necessary at all. Days off I need to use my spending wisely, getting massages and taking care of myself. Another thing I love is having a "laptop" day. A day of mse, browsing the net, playing football manager on the comp aswel. Cheap days relaxing. I'm also learning how to cook in 2013. Self teaching though.

Work stepping up a gear means working smarter. Taking on the better jobs. Picking and choosing and prioritising my time. My gf earns £25k a year yet pays herself £900 net a month as it is "all she needs" the rest is saved. Some if that £900 a month is saved aswel. We are going halfs on cost of everything so if she can survive fine on that, why can't i! Leaving a £2,000+ surplus each month. 2013 is going to be a great year for me.

  • Well ive just done a new blog post on my website about new year new challenges etc. I wrote how you can sit and say im in the same position I was last year so ive not achieved, you can say ive made it through the year or you can say well I stood up for myself on xxx occasion, I completed x amount of jobs, I pushed myself to take a 5 1/2 hr flight despite hating flying etc
feeling much more positive now & making lists of challenges for 2013. I hate 'resolutions' so I have challenges

  • Also just on 2 debts that ive tracked in 2012 ive paid a total of £5958.52 off. :-)

lodger idea is dead, OH really against it so just got to find other inventive ways of making money without doing any more work.

they say moving house is just stress, must be difficult with your parents and your husband to work around. So i hope that everything/one turns up on time and all systems are a go-go! you always seem to have more than you think!

see your debt post... see that is fantastic news, bit hard on yourself you know! and i disagree, you are the founder of this thread and i think lots of people use bad times etc to not aim as high as you and really if this thread teaches you anything is that you are the creator of your own luck and fortune, sometimes it will literally be the pits but hey here we are on the other side ready to start again.

personally i am finding paying off all my debt and then going straight to saving for a wedding quite demoralising as i wanted to spend some money on a holiday and a bit of "living" but that is not going to happen as now I need major dental work and major physio on my neck meaning that i am going to have to scrimp even harder to not be in debt. but 2013 IS GOING TO BE A MAGICAL YEAR! and I am determined to make it thus. See you on the other side!lol!

how was Christmas in your new home????!!! best feeling ever i bet.

AMEN to massages and laptop days. today must be one, see your posting everywhere lol!
