I want to join in detail **right now** but my eyes are closing, so let me just say ... 2016 is going to be my year too! For sure
More over the next few days
2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
YB - have you anyone special in mind or have you not met her yet.:rotfl:
Great goals there.
BIscuits - Love the pyramid analogy about savings and investments. That's what I do. I'm happy with my pyramid base - now it's time for me to be a bit more adventurous.
Kay - great to hear that your grandad is doing so well. 75 plus?? He's just a youngster.......
I watched the programme about people living to a 100 and being healthy. I think it's entirely possible. Good genetics and a healthy lifestyle and maybe a bit of good luck ......I definitely think optimism and happiness play a very important role in how we age.
Life throws us all a curved ball from time to time but if we can remain positive in the face of adversity then I do believe that we can overcome most setbacks.
As you know I have had a few difficult years but I can truthfully say that I am now looking to the future with hope and optimism. I will always hold my late husband in my heart but you can't grieve forever, life is for living.
As Hemingway once said "the world is a mighty fine place".
It's up to us .......0 -
Hi All,
I have to say I was feeling a bit down just before Christmas, the thought of 3 weeks without working was making me feel a bit uneasy, especially as my fella has had to change jobs (new one starts 5th Jan)
BUT ive been in bed poorly for 3 days (common cold/manflu) and its made me reassess and realise this time last year I was in so much debt!
Yesterday the tenants at my rental said th boiler has packed in and despite trying to sort themselves they admitted defeat and called. Within a few hours we had a gas engineer out and have agreed to fit a new one asap at a cost of £1250. Last year that would have been unthinkable. This year we just have to tighten our belts a bit
next year hopefully we will have a savings pot specifically for the rental but at the moment it is helping cover bills.
My credit score is now 991 out of 999. Still un-creditable haha. On the plus side I now just have a credit card to clear and then what I class as ongoing debt.... my car, my mortgage and the balance of our family holiday in summer....!!!
Glad to see all is well and great to see YBM backtrainee millionaire (aka not there yet!)0 -
Wait. I have missed the first 2975 posts of the story. How are we getting on on the Millionaire journey?? Is it the BTL route?

Hi Tink, sorry to hear you have been poorly, hope it didn't spoil Christmas for you. And yes, you've done really well this year. Next year will be even better.
As I said before ......2016 is going to be awesome:rotfl:
I just feel it, all the bad stuff is behind me now. Over 10 years of absolute shoite .........but hey I'm still here.
I've been thinking about my dear late husband quite a bit this last few days (I always get a bit sentimental at New Year :rotfl:) and yes I miss him but there's no pain now, no grief, just fond memories. It's going to be ok.
Well now - drum roll please. I have well and truly crashed through that £1k savings target for Jan 1st.......£2085 ......ta dah!!
Now for February 1st. I was going to say £1k again but I'm going to push myself and go for £1500. Aim high......;)
Now I know the thread is called the £1m thread but I think that for most of us what that really means is FID.....Financial Independence Day.
So bearing that in mind I thought I would share a quote with you......
"The only thing worth spending your money on is your Freedom"
Here's to our journey
Make mine a G&T......
"Happy New Year Everyone"

LL that's amazing! Well done you.
Good to hear that memories are now fond, im sure you still get the ache but that it doesn't quite cripple you the same. Im sure he would be proud as punch of how you have worked through!
Just nipped to Asda (urgh) as I realised that my daughter needed new school shoes (ongoing issue where we buy her shoes, her dad takes them - this is pair number 5 & 6 since September)
It is on a retail park so was absolute mayhem but wanted to get it done as she is with her dad until the night before school reopens.
Anywho! On our way down I was talking to my son (aged 10) about putting his Christmas money in the bank. He has spent some but ive now said the rest must be banked. we got into a conversation about how when things went wrong last year and we moved in with my mum, I promised my son (aged 8, almost 9 at the time) that I would get my s@@t together and we would be better off.
He was saying well mum you said you would and now we are drivin a range rover down to the shops.
long story short I think the seed is planted as I said when he turns 15 or 16 I will start letting him practice driving on private land so that when he turns 17 he wont just go out and be wreckless driving a car. I said I will either get him a cheap car for his 17th birthday or his first years insurance. The smart cookie has said he will get the car and I will get his insurance..clever as insurance for 17 yr old boys is probably 4 times the cost of a cheap car.
Even smarter is he knows he has around 4000 saved at the moment so is aiming to save 10000 by 17 so he can get a nice car AND a nice holiday haha definitely my childtrainee millionaire (aka not there yet!)0 -
Haha tink I love the sound of your son, very smart fellow. you better get saving on the insurance! Lol
Just popped in to wish everyone a happy new year
I am scared to look at my credit score, but tink what you have said has encouraged me to put it on my to do list for January.
Going to think of my resolutions then come back.
I genuinely hope 2016 is the year we all hope for.
I am feeling hopeful as this time last year I was definitely worse off.
I start training for a new part of my job on 6th Jan, so I'm already excited.
Plans for my relaunch are falling into place.Lose 28lb 3/28lb

I've been dozy during the holidays - but reading this thread its so full of energy its wonderful :j:j:j congratulations to the power houses!
Here's to 2016 - I've been prattling about general plans on my diary thread, but I think there are two things that will help me achieve my goals: staying healthy (and getting healthier) and focussing on activity that will provide an income. Going to really focus my productive time on that.
Thank you all. Have a wonderful celebration for the New Year, and lets all come back renewed to that Financial Independence, whatever the actual amount is :j:j:j2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -

My Grandad is 77(found out lol) but my Nan is 94 today!!! Off celebrating.
Wishing all a happy and healthy year xxPeople don't know what they want until you show them.0
