Interesting, I have to admit I picked up rules of work from a book shop and couldn't finish it...I hated it. I remember thinking this is one guys opinion of the 'perfect worker' and in a way..I guess I just didn't agree with some of the stuff he had put? lol (I havn't googled it to check but I'm 99% sure its the same guy your on about)

    .

    Yes it's the same author.

Maybe reading the Rules of Work made you realise that you were likely to be happier working for yourself rather than being in someone's employ.

I think we all have different character traits. Some people like to climb the corporate ladder as a learning curve before starting their own businesses, whilst other people prefer just to strike out on their own at the earliest opportunity.

My youngest son found the Rules of Work very helpful, especially the advice on how to negotiate a pay rise and how to deal with the dreaded performance reviews.

I think Templar's little books are useful because you can dip in and out of them as and when you need. I don't think you have to follow each "rule" slavishly - more a pick and mix approach.

I only recommend them because I find them easy to dip into and find that they serve me well as timely "reminders" when I need one. Indeed most of the Rules are simply stating the blindingly obvious. We all know what we should be doing…

So when I feel myself slipping or getting a bit complacent then I dig out "The Rules" to give myself a kick up the derriere and get back on track. ;)

I wish I could remember more about that book but I do think it was a fair few years ago I picked it up. Glad to hear your DS1 has improved over time, the scariest part for me (did I say he was having inhalers every two hours? Cant remember now without going back) and they kept saying he needed to go four hours at a time to send him home but he wasnt improving and they kept trying to drag it out and at 2 and half hours he was sooo much worse it was unreal....but at one point the doctor kept saying no he's fine don't worry just wait and got to 3hours and managed to get him to go to sleep but I felt like I was basically waiting for him to stop breathing before they would do anything and he was suffering so badly...I could of killed that doctor but in the end he was the one that finally got things going after realizing he wasn't improving on his own!!

So not sure whether to hate him or not >.>

I have a problem, I want to expand my business and to do that I am going to need a machine...now theirs so many dif machines you can buy that do the same thing but I've found one that does them all but it costs £800 BUT the kicker is they give you the machine ONLY and say this machine can make 10 dif things well you'd have to buy all the extras to make them and for example 1 product I'd need to spend £75 buying the extra attachment ....so its going to be very costly.

On the other hand, I could buy all the machines seperate instead of one that does it all...and ALOT cheaper, if you buy the machine that just does one job they don't need attachments as its already built in for that purpose...but then I would have in the long run say 5-10 machines... and its the space.

Plus the more expensive machine can make the 1 product 8 times in one go and the less expensive one just makes 1 at a time...so it would be a right time saver, but to get it to do everything probably looking at £1200-£1400 without adding it up.

It makes more sense to get the expensive one but I havn't got the money now...so I'd have to wait to get the money together from what I'm doing now...where as if I got the less expensive machines I could build it up as I go.....GAHHH!!!

So much going through my head ATM. On plus note I have a little helper starting Monday(well shes 16 lol), not sure how thats going to play out yet will keep you updated. :-)

Could you buy one of the smaller machines and make that product or whatever (sorry, not sure what it is the machines do), then save, save, save profits from that to buy the all-in-one machine and accessories in, say, six months' time? Then you could sell the smaller machine as you won't need it any longer. Would that work?

Kayalana, very tricky with the capital expenditure vs greater output ... but if you're managing to need additional help, then it sounds like you'll have enough money to buy the *big* machine very shortly - sounds like you're doing brilliantly!

I'm a bit chuffed at the mo because I've spent ages today "sewing" a banner together, and I've finally got it done - its not got hugely sharp resolution all over it, but its a thing of beauty, each photo taken by yours truly, cats I have loved, including some glitzy ones with diamante collars on my duvet cover :D there's an early version that wasn't as good but I like the individual photos, so I've realised I can actually do a blog about it, and then just replace it, so every page is recognisably mine - online identity an' all that :D

    *sighs*

Roll on 2014. Sat here with my 2month old wheezing away, my 15month old who I mentioned was in hosp 3 weeks ago is ill again...it just seems like everything he is getting better something else happens.

Babys been diagnosed with bronchiolitues...not really sure if thats what my other man has suffered with as he's been really ill with coughing fevers since friday and docs say virus infection, baby been diagnosed today with it.

My little worker is due tomorrow, I feel if I cancel she will feel I'm just making excuses but end day it can't be helped as I will have my hands full with both of them on my own tomorrow! On the other hand, my business sales are booming and I can't get them done so it would really help if she still came...if only she was already trained IDK.

Part of me is thinking of just shutting my Ebay shop down till after christmas now..... I'd lose out on a hell of lot of sales but the kids just keep getting ill and I can't keep up!! :-/ + I'd be letting her down as I already promised her 8hours work from now till xmas. -_-

If you buy this machine, how long/how many items have to be sold before the machine is paid for?

Oh what a worry for you.

Perhaps your little helper can help you with the little ones whilst you both get on with the ebay stuff.

With a bit of luck they might have a better night and be a little brighter by tomorrow.

I know with my DS1 and his asthma, he would be at death's door one minute but once the steroids started to kick in he would soon bounce back. Of course the opposite is also true, fine one minute and then wheezing like mad the next.

I know it's perhaps a bit too soon but has anyone thought about why they are wheezing. Could it be allergies. Have you done anything different recently, new carpets, decorating etc, has their diet changed.

DS1's asthma was definitely allergy driven. I had to modify our diets (felt it was only fair that we all ate the same foods so that he didn't feel deprived), ripped up all our carpets and replaced with wooden floors, special anti allergen bedding.

Food additives such as artificial colouring and dust mites were his big enemies. Luckily I had an early warning system with food.

If he ate anything that was going to cause a problem his lips would swell within seconds, giving me enough time to grab his inhaler and give him some ventolin immediately before his airways closed.

We also had to avoid foggy damp weather as much as possible. I got into the habit of damp dusting so as not to scatter dust around and would hoover and dust when he wasn't around.

TBH finding out what worked best was mainly down to trial and error.

    Hope things improve soon.

    Not much news here.

Re the Flipper - Santander sent the mortgage offer to the wrong solicitor - more delays. Hoping to complete before Christmas so we can get cracking in the new year.

Work progressing well on DS1's house.

Have done a bit of matched betting - don't find it easy but I've least won my stake money back. Just need to keep at it.

However "Christmas" seems to be taking over everything at the moment and I'm still having to nurse my back, so that's slowing me down a bit.

DS1 is now out of plaster so at least I'm not at his beck and call anymore.

I don't want to tempt fate but I was only thinking Phase 2 of my master plan is almost complete.

    Phase 3 starts next year.

    Onwards and upwards:D

Just E-mailed her and basicly said you can still start if you want but personally I don't think its a good idea because its obviously contagious and she said hope you all get better soon so I am taking that as shes not coming. Probably for the best. :o My mum has offered to come babysit Tuesday so that will help abit for now so don't have to decide yet! See how they get on if I end up in hospital again I will def be closing it down for a week or so its just not worth it.

Will have to try this when things slow down in Jan

Hope it all get sorted out soon with Santander..mortgages are a slow process.
