I think most people could buy an £80k house and be
mortgage free. It's whether you're prepared to live in a small house in a not-so-nice area.

What size house would be acceptable to you.

And the 3 other people who were also digging it with me, 4 people she couldnt bring herself to speak to, putting a breakfast out for somebody without uttering a single word when spoken to is quite rude if you ask me. Ignoring somebody who asks you were the local pub is and just shrugging is also quite rude.

Not in my experience and i can honestly say that is the first time i have ever heard of it.

Every time ive stayed in blackpool the landladies have been very helpful, maybe thats because when i sign into my room i pass the time of day with them.

They probably aren’t, it’s just one of those stereo types you know all southerners are miserable gits and northerners and the salt of the earth. I’ve bed around long enough to known that there are both types all over the country.

The north / south discussions on here around which is better always make me smile. Life is about what you make of it - the friends you have, the things you do, the experiences you go through, the effort you put in and the opportunities you grab. Doesn't really matter whether this is in the South, the Midlands or the North.

Sorry to be blunt, but if you're the type of person who just couldn't live in a place up north because it's 2 degrees cooler on average than somewhere down south then you're a bit out of your box IMHO. We're not like France, the USA or Australia where different parts of the country are radically different to other parts. Most of our weather is the same, our scenery is roughly the same and people are roughly the same.

Having said all this, there is a list of places I'd prefer not to live if at all possible. However, it's a mix of geographical places - Swindon, Coventry, Croydon, Hull, Derby, Burnley, Dover, Blackpool etc. etc. and if I were forced to move to one of these places tomorrow I'd just shrug, find out where the nice bits were, find some nice people and just enjoy life there. There's always a silver lining; live in Derby and have the Peaks on your doorstep etc.

That’s very true I have just retired and paid for my house I could move up North and buy a nice house and have plenty of money but my family and friends are here and I would much rather be near them.

well I don't know I find the north has a completely different atmosphere to the south. People are more superior in the north, and house prices are out of control in parts. I've no idea why, because the transport links are rubbish in many parts, and you have to rely on buses to get around. Plus tottenham is a real dump.
