Am I the only one thinking £40/£50 is way too much for a friend's husband? Imagine if everyone spent that much! Is it just cos he's having a party?
I would restrict it to a tenner and get a nice bottle of wine or a bit more for a bottle of spirits.
Loved the tshirt thing but that's for people you know really well eh?
Me and my friends stopped doing birthday presents after age 30 sadly. But we are all turning 40 last year and this and seems we are buying something token of about a fiver for the occasion. Sucks doesn't it but they all have families and prefer to spend their money on them and not friends.0 -
My SIL bought OH a bottle of his favourite drink - Bulmers Cider! and stuck 40 £1.00 coins to it!
He got a lot of random stuff as he doesn't have any expensive hobbies but someone went to a clothes shop (river island I think?) and there just happened to be a t-shirt with 40 on it which was quite good but not obviously age related so he could wear it0 -

That's a good point. I guess it depends on how close they are, as well as other factors.
I only spent that much as it was my brother's Birthday, so the OP may want to adjust how much he spends accordingly.February wins: Theatre tickets0 -
I'd suggest a game (if he's got e.g. an xBox or a PS3), some sort of gadget or "executive toy", a book token or maybe beer/wine/spirits if he's into that sort of thing.
As for the amount - I'd spend that much on my brother, but not on my friend's husband.0 -
Is he a football fan? What about a team shirt with his name and the number 40?
If he is a football fan, I'd stick to the shirt and not do the 40 on the back. Unless the squad number 40 correlates to a player that he likes. An ex of mine did something like this and I never wore the shirt.Don't worry about typing out my username - Call me COMP(Unless you know my real name - in which case, feel free to use that just to confuse people!)0 -
The only problem with the football shirts is that some fans are "fussy" lol and the season shuts down in a couple of weeks and new shirts will be back out again in the summer
So the shirt you buy will be "out of date"

Some new shirts are out tomorrow, but others are later towards summer.0
