Well it depend exactly what you want to do. If you want to rip your own music and put transfer it across an alternative program like Yamipod will work but if you want to transfer tracks that have been download using iTunes, they are likely to be copy protected. There are way to put downloaded track onto another machine but as I don't do this DRM stuff, I can't really say any more. Perhaps an orchard nut will be able help you more!

The advantage of YamiPod is that it makes your iPod truly portable.

You may go to another PC that doesn't have iTunes installed, or if it does, that can be problematic if it tries to sync.

With YamiPod the app is sat on your iPod. You just plug it and away you go. The only problem then is the proprietry lead for the iPod. Such a pain, totally defeats the larger ideal of USB.

That's why I still like my first gen Shuffle. It's basically a USB key that can play music. No cable needed, no iTunes needed, I can simply plug it into any computer.

I'm not sure whether he has been downloading from itunes. ( does that make me a bad mother.)
A lot of the albums are from my cd collection. I assume he has them stored in itunes to put them on his ipod.

I have installed yamipod onto the laptop. I cannot access it as it says ipod not connected. How will I be able to put albums on here prior to Christmas Day?

I have also installed the mp3 rip. I am off for a play with that. I want to put my Christmas tunes in mp3 format for the car just to annoy the boys.:D

What a palaver... I would have just stuck with the software that you had installed on your computer.

You would have completed the rips by now.
