Itunes - is it essential?

Just had my daughters Christmas Nano delivered... I had a quick look at the instructions and the first one is to download ITunes to get it going. Is this necessary? and can I still use my existing Mp3 collection to load songs into it. I like Musicmatch jukebox - I tried ITunes and wasen't too keen on it... Can I do without it???
A bargain is something you don't need at a price you can't resist.

:hello: Hi expresso.
I too am going to have a simular problem over Christmas.
I will have no access to the internet over Christmas. What do I need to load onto my laptop to get the ipod up and running.
I have no music or anything on the laptop and have had no dealings with mp3 players.

You get itunes on a cd with your iPod, so shouldn't be an issue.Ever stop to think and forget to start again?0

Well I don't use iTunes but one of the other applications like Yamipod will allow you to transfer music tracks etc. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -

So do transfer some CDs onto my laptop, download and transfer Yamipod to the laptop and away I go. Is it that simple?£2 Coins Savings Club 2012 is £4

Yes that should work fine although you will need to rip the music to mp3 before transfering it using Yamipod:doh: Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0

Each to their own, of course, by iTunes is free. Plus, if you use manual synchronisation, you can just drag'n'drop mp3 files from the PC hard disk to be copied to the Nano without making any changes to your music collection on the PC. iTunes will rip CDs to mp3 format with no digital rights management applied.0 -
I'm not an iTunes fan either. Just found it a bit heavy and often too controlling.
I used Winamp with the ml_ipod plugin (in Windows) and Amarok (in Linux) before I Rockbox'd my iPod. And I've got the Database Builder for my Shuffle so don't need iTunes for that either."Boonowa tweepi, ha, ha."0
