2 Months left on Orange Contract - how to pay it off now?
Hi all,
I am into my 3 month upgrade period, and I am dying to get my mits on the Galaxy S2.
I currently pay £27.50 a month for 200 mins, unlimited texts, and 250MB of internet.
Orange won't give me a S2 for anything less than £35 a month. On Phones4U they have the handset for free on Vodafone with 300 mins, 500MB and Unlimited texts. The Phones4U person told me I can pay that off (kind of had an idea I could anyway) and then basically start a fresh with the Vodafone S2.
So, I am obviously going to ring Orange, but what is the protocol with it all. Or can I just let the contract expire naturally and for these next 2 months just pay both contracts?
If I do pay it up, do I just pay the 2 months left or what? Any guidance would be helpful people

I used to work at Phones 4 U... you can do it whatever way you like really.
You can call Orange and request a final bill: they'll just bill you for all remaining months at once and close the account. You can let it run BUT REMEMBER TO STILL WRITE AND CANCEL OR THEY'LL KEEP CHARGING PAST THE MINIMUM CONTRACT! It doesn't just finish and close itself.
Either way you'll just pay for the months that are left 'till your minimum contract period is completed. I'd probably just keep it going, initially at least, as you're obviously not keeping your number (not possible after point of sale with Vodafone) so you can make sure to anyone who keeps using the old one to use the new one.Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.- Mark TwainArguing with idiots is like playing chess with a pigeon: no matter how good you are at chess, its just going to knock over the pieces and strut around like its victorious.0 -

So get my new phone, then before the end of the minimum contract length ring and cancel and then write and cancel too?0 -
Don't necessarily have to ring as well, you can just write, specifying that you would like your final bill. Your Ts&Cs specify they want cancellation in writing, so always safest to do it that way. Or just leave it running, and write no later than 30 days before your end date or they'll bill you till 30 days from your letter...Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.- Mark TwainArguing with idiots is like playing chess with a pigeon: no matter how good you are at chess, its just going to knock over the pieces and strut around like its victorious.0

Do you need to keep your number?
If so, ring Orange, ask for a PAC, once it is used, you'll get a final bill for the remainder of the contract, minus the VAT.
If you're taking a new number, you can ring them and ask them for early termination. They'll advise you of the cost (once again, minus VAT) and once paid, the line ceases.
Simples.I spent 25 years in the mobile industry, from 1994 to 2019. Worked for indies as well as the big networks, in their stores also in contact centres. I also hold a degree in telecoms engineering so I like to think I know what I’m talking about 😂0 -
If you can wait until those 2 months are up then ring the retentions department, they will more likely than not beat the offer that you have seen at Phones4U. Personally I wouldn't touch P4U with a bargepole0

or phone Orange retentions and ask thm how much it is to buy yourself out of your contract and you could ask them about a loyalty bonus.0

Once you know how they operate they're OK. Their selling technique (which is also the reason I left) seems very manipulative, and often ends with people feeling they've been coerced into something they didn't want; and thats not always untrue...
Orange retentions (in my experience) aren't particularly good, but its possible they might offer you a better deal; you could ring now and see what they will offer to beat P4U and keep you as a customer...Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.- Mark TwainArguing with idiots is like playing chess with a pigeon: no matter how good you are at chess, its just going to knock over the pieces and strut around like its victorious.0 -
Just rang the Orange 150 line, chose the option "You are thinking of leaving us?"
And the woman on the phone... couldn't wait to get shut of me lol. She didn't offer me anything or give me any reason to stay lol.
Looks like Vodafone will be getting my business now, and a shiny new Galaxy S20
