The first ten days of your bband line, you are in a DLM (Data Line Management) where your broadband is in a period of adjustment where it will settle on the best speed for your line.
If you're getting 11.2 Mbps I can't see what your grumbling about as some of us can't get that.(I get 7Mbps) The speed your line can handle depends on the distance you are from the exchange (as the cable runs, not straight line distance) and the age & condition of the drop wire from said exchange to your master socket.Wireless & extensions can also affect speed.
Don't forget, the speed you are offered is 'UP TO' not 'YOU WILL GET' such n such speeds.Just because you signed up to a packege that offers you speeds 'UP TO' ?? Mbps, doesn't mean you'll get ??Mbps

Thanks. Wasent really moaning about the speeds as i didnt know if that was good or not, so it sounds like its good so its looking like it either needs time to settle or the laptop

11Mbps is pretty damned good.I got 5.5Mbps when I was with BT & now get around 7Mbps with O2.It just takes a while to settle. One thing tho,in the first 10 days, don't turn of the mains power for the router.Leave it on & if you can, connect it into the main BT Master socket.

I'd definitely stick with your provider; I'm with O2 at the moment and regularly struggle with speed around 0.3mb, although it appears to be a problem with the BT line.
  • Your speed sounds pretty good to me - it could well be that your browser isn't set to make the most of your connection. If you're using Firefox for example there are some very simple steps you can take to greatly improve your page load speeds.

when i done a speed checker im not sure if that was like a generic speed for my area or if it is the actual speed.
i just had a look on my conection icon it said my "speed" is 54mb,is this the important figer..
im sure its not the laptop as gf is sat beside me & hers is pretty slow aswell
as im writting this she just done a speed test & its 1.1mb download per sec & 101kbs upload per sec that sounds low to me but tbh iv not got a clue, hence why i have posted

we both just done the same test using the moneysaving speed checker, mine 10.14mb d/l & 0.79 ul the gf was 2.2mb d/l & 0.62 u/l does this make sense

I take it you ran the test wireless, you need to try it with a wired Ethernet connection,If your G/F's speed is still slow, she may have a virus or something on the PC.Run a NETSTAT test to see how many open connections you have, but make sure you close all browser, explorer pages & turn of firewall & AV.

Slow web pages do not automaticlly mean that your connection is slow, your download speed is brilliant and your upload speed is about right, it could be number of things causing your web pages to slow down:
    • Low pc memory can cause slow web pages when over worked, check this by going checking the performance tab on task manager, if you have a few things running in the background close them and check the difference.
    • Check your network connections are not set to obtain specific ip and dns details (unless required to do so).
    • Check that you don't have 2 firewalls running, disable 1 if this is the case.
    • Check your routers sync rate by logging into the router control interface to see if theres a massive difference between speeds from the exchange to your router and speeds from the exchange to your pc.
    • Try running a ping test from the pc to the website your having difficulty with to see if there are any delays or packet/data loss.
    • Close any p2p programs that may be running in the background, these may include utorrent, sopcast, limewire, bbc iplayer download manger, or anything similar as these will take up bandwith, disrupt data traffic and slow web pages down.
    • Check your router device list and security to ensure no wireless clients are unknowingly logged on to your network and using your bandwith.
    • If you are connecting wirelessly to the router, check that there is no electrical inteferance from other appliances causing disruption to your signal.
    • If you are connecting wirelessly to the router, try changing the wireless channel settings just incase a neighbour is using the same wireless channel and conflicts with your signal.
    • If you are connecting wirelessly to the router, try connecting with the ethernet cable to compare speeds.
    • If you are connecting wirelessly to the router, check the signal strength is at its maximum potential, if not try repositioning the router or the pc (the most ideal place to position a wireless router is bang in the middle of the room your pc is, suspended approx head height, but that's never going to happen :D)
    • Try using a different browser to compare speeds, check browser settings are adequate to the page and its contents your trying to display. i.e. the browsers security settings and pluggins, if unsure try reset the browser to its default settings.
    • Delete temporary internet files and cookies regularly.
    • Try to spot patterns in the slow web page issues. i.e. is it a particular time of day this occurs, is it particularly secure or encripted pages that it occurs on.
    • Try a different PC to see if the problem still occurs on that one.
    • Make sure your PC is clear from any viruses or infections that may be slowing down the PC.
    • Check that no prgrams have or are downloading updates, or require a PC reboot, change the prgrams settings to speciffically download updates when you want.
    • Check all device drivers are upto date, and all devices are working properly via device manager.
I can't think of much more off the top of my head, good luck in your findings and post back your progress.

Funny enough lastnite it seemed normal 95% of time. Iv had herd that tt users do have probs if to much traffic!
