I voted Ken Clarke mainly on ideology, but don't forget that Gordon didn't do that bad a job of balancing the books given the restrictions.
24% votes for Gordon "spend now & hope for the best in the future" really does concern me...0 -
interesting
according to that, with Brown and Cable highest, and if people are voting across parties, maybe we should have a coalition of Labour and Liberal Democrats,0 -
Am certainly not a Lib Dem voter but Cable for me all day long on that list. He's one of the very few properly qualified to be the chancellor as he has proven himself in the private sector and is generally a really great economist.
It really does annoy me that someone like Osbourne can essential become the most powerful and important accountant and economist in the country when his only experience is as a political researcher. The same applied with the awful Alistair Darling who got promoted from Transport Minister to Chancellor which to me means that he either had a very particular set of skills for both jobs or was very unqualified for one of them.
The PM only needs to be an exceptional speaker and be able to schmooze and influence people as this is what is needed for the country on an international basis for the benefit of the country. Every other ministerial position should be awarded to the person that is most qualified in that field - the education minister should be an ex-headteacher; health minister should be a doctor; chancellor should be an accountant/economist/financier etc etc. That's how it works in companies in the private sector and surely the government is essentially the largest and most important company in the country.0 -

Our country has party politics not voting for people. This is why the Lib Dems have performed so poorly recently as everybody got sucked in by Clegg and Cable in the debates last year because they conducted themselves excellently but now realise that the Lib Dems are more than just two people and pretty much promised what they could to gain some power without any chance of backing it up. The top people are great, the party is not...0 -
Wot...no choice for the only leader (and economist of some repute and long standing) of a governing majority in the UK. Hmmmm, remember UK does not mean England, it means UK.0
