If you've kept it then what's the problem? You obviously knew they were going to ask for it at some point so you have done the right thing and when they come knocking for it, you can just hand them it back in a lump sum.

    Easy :D[/QUOTE]

My original post was questioning the £300 fine sweetcheeks!! not the fact that I owe them ££ thanx for ur very helpful input tho :j

It was logged on the system but not put through as a change of circumstances as the OP was given another number to call and change the circumstances with them. Logging it on the system could just mean that they have made a note that she has called to report a change of circumstances and has been asked to call the relevant department, which she didn't do as she couldn't get through.

I take it the recorded letter was recieved and signed for?

I think the question "Surely they are liable for not acting on the information we have provided them??" shows that she is indeed trying to get away with paying it back :)
no it dosent show that at all...did you not see the part of the post where it said about being fined 300 quid..meaning why should they be liable for that considering that poster had tried to contact them.

Thanx Zagfles  where exactly do I find the turn2us calculator? is it on this site? Pretty obvious I will owe them ££ thats why I have not spent it,I just was'nt sure about the £300 fine. I have made numerous efforts to report my circumstances.

You might find there is no overpayment for last year, since there was a £25k disregard for income increases over the year before.

Eg if 2009/10 income was £10k and your tax credits last year (2010/11) were based on this, but you actually earned £30k, there won't be an overpayment last year. But you will be clocking up overpayments since April 2011, until your renewal is done.

I would not know if it was recieved.
I have not heard another thing about it,other then the recent letter my OH got from inland revenue requesting some more info on his Tax Credit claim (he has never made a claim it has always been through me,letters from Inland Rev have always came addressed to me) this I assume has been sent as they have actually recieved my recorded letter,as it is addressed from same office.. He went from long term unemployed since being made redundant in reciept of no beneifts other than the £35 a wk 2nd adult element. As I am on low earnings. which I assume is what we will owe them along with a little more. Which mght I say again is in my bank ready to hand straight back :)

You would know because it would tell you on the royal mail website if it had been recieved at the place you sent it.

Tax credits letters that I recieve have always had both mine and my OHs name on it and we both seem to get seperate copies with just our own name on it - it is a joint claim?

Do you work full time? x

unless Tax credits have moved their offices to the moon i'd get onto royal mail and ask them why it's taken nearly 2 months to deliver it
