Tax Credit change in circumstances notification being ignored by Inland Revenue??

:wall::wall:

Hi can any1 pls advise??
I have been trying to report a change in circumstances since last Nov.
I tried ringing but kept being put in a queueing system for up to half an hr,so I wrote a letter to inform them of my partners new job. I had no reply and no change to my wkly payments,which should have been reduced. I tried ringing again,same thing,automated queue's,Im p/t self employed and I contact them every Jan with my end of year self assesment figures,but this year I could'nt get through on the telephone,so I wrote them a letter and this time I sent it recorded delivery,come April still nothing from them,still no change to my payments,so I phoned again finally I got speaking to someone informing them of my change in circumstances and end of year figure,she told me she would log it on her system but gave me a different number and said I needed to speak to them,low and behold every time I ring it's an automated queue. My payments still havent been amended I know I am being overpaid but they dont seem to care. My partner has since recieved a letter from the Inland Revenue requesting more information regarding his Tax credit claim which we have forwarded on to them. I have heard that we can be fined £300 for not reporting these changes,is this true/fair? we have proof of phone calls via itemised telephone bills and copies of recorded delivery postal receipts etc. Surely they are liable for not acting on the information we have provided them?? :think:

    You knew you were being overpaid so you should have kept the extra money that they were paying you.

    Surely you didn't think that they were just going to let you away with it?

    Personally, the excuse that people need to wait ages to get through always baffles me - it won't take any longer than 45 mins to get through. Just one phone call. Or if you phone (like I do) before 9am or after 7pm get through within 10 mins.

    How much have you been overpaid?

    Increases in income/new job are not changes which you must report, so there won't be any fine, but you will have to pay back any overpayment. Check the turn2us calculator for what you should be getting.

    lol...you said that you called them and "kept" being on hold for up to half hour - so you can phone a few times for half hour but can't wait an extra 15mins on one of those calls?

    If you've kept it then what's the problem? You obviously knew they were going to ask for it at some point so you have done the right thing and when they come knocking for it, you can just hand them it back in a lump sum.

    Easy :D

    I think the question "Surely they are liable for not acting on the information we have provided them??" shows that she is indeed trying to get away with paying it back :)

    Thanx Zagfles :beer: where exactly do I find the turn2us calculator? is it on this site? Pretty obvious I will owe them ££ thats why I have not spent it,I just was'nt sure about the £300 fine. I have made numerous efforts to report my circumstances. :kiss:

    the question was are they liable for not acting on the information that the poster had spoken to someone who logged the info and also sent them a recorded message.

    I have never heard of the fine being enforced on anyone.

    In what way does it change your tax credits? Would you not be covered under the disregard rule...How much extra was your OH getting?
