Used cars with £30 road tax - upto 6 yrs old
I was looking to get a new car such as the picanto with it's low raod tax and good mpg, but then I thought I may save more money by buying a used car upto 5 years old. It's really confusing finding this info. SO far I have
Toyota Aygo/107/C1
Kia Picanto
Hyundai i10
Suzuki Splash
Does anyone know of a list of upto 5-6 year old cars that are in road tax bracket B (£30) per year?
Thanks

Renault Megane 1.5 diesel
Ford Fiesta 1.4 diesel0 -
AFAIK the Picanto has only been in this band for a couple of years - the engines were tweaked to lower the emissions.
Makes perfect sense to buy one brand new with the current offers, to be fair. (I did)
I think most 1.3 diesel Corsa Ds are in this band.0 -

That mostly brings up a list of the new 2011 cars that I have already seen. Whilst I am interested in a new cars, I'd rather buy a car 3-6 years old that is in class B - £35 tax/year and save myself some money on the depreciattion. Finding out this information is harder as it means having to do a lot of trawling through the net and then one model eg 1.3 diesel might be in band b but all the others may be in band d etc. I was hoping someone would know of a list somewhere on the net which listed exactly what car by year, make, model and derivative that were in the band - this would make it so much easier.Renault Megane 1.5 diesel

Kilty, I already read your thread re: picanto amongst my research on low tax cars - looks like you got a great deal. The only thing that puts me off the picanto is the 4 seats in the back compared to 5 for the hyundai i10. The other thing is every dealer seems to have run out of the 1.0 spice that they were doing for £5995!0 -

TBH with cars this size you'd not make much use of 3 rear seats unless you have small children....0 -

I can recommend the Clio 1.5 DCi. The wife has a 2006/56, only a 68bhp so a bit underpowered for.some but nippy round town.
We bought it rather a Megane, better residuals and less electronic gimics to go wrong.
I have driven a 1.3 cdti Corsa in the new shape and that was a nice car but the new shape is.expensive.
Plenty of Clios.out there at sensible prices. Even the older shape are half decent. But the new shape from 06 plate on are much nicer to drive and i think better built.
Wifes has done nigh on 30k trouble free miles in just over 18months.0 -

I think this is the most important thing to consider nowadays when buying a newish car if you want reliability/cheap motoring, try and go for something with as few a electrical devices as these are so expensive to diagnose and fix when they (not if) go wrong0 -
the megane 1.5dci is a cracking car for the money. If you buy one of the later 'big bum' shape ones on an 08 or 58 plate, most of the early problems had been sorted and you will probably still have a bit of warranty left.
I bought an 08 megane 1.5dci tech run last September (so it was 2.5 years old) for about £5500. It has all the toys like cruise control, climate control, auto lights and wipers and panoramic roof. It does between 55-60 mpg on average and only costs £30 to tax. The one i bought had done 40,000 miles but had been well serviced and i've done a further 15,000 so far with no problems at all.
The megane may not have the build quality of a VW/Audi, but for value for money, it's hard to beat.0 -
Consider a Toyota Prius. £10 a year road tax, good economy, they've been around for a good number of years and have Toyota's reputation for reliability. Plus the hybrid part of the system has an 8 year 100,000 mile warranty on it. It's a good sized 5 door car with surprising performance. You have to accept that it would be an automatic, but I'd look for a 2nd generation model (which was introduced in 2003).
