You don't have an accident at 15MPH and write off a car, even if it is 10 years old and you don't give someone a neck injury having a minor shunt at 15MPH.
It is very easy to total an old car at 15mph, if the hit was on the B Pillar and there was roof and sill damage then even if it is minor they aren't going to fix it.
Again if an old car hits a lamppost front first then you are looking at a front panel, bonnet, grille, maybe a headlight, bumper, bumper support etc, very easy to total a car worth less than £1500, very, very easy.
As far as the neck injury goes, it is also very easy to sustain a whiplash injury, especially if the impact is side on, 15mph is pleny fast enough to cause injury, especially if the driver lost control and didn't manage to get the brakes on effectively.
Also most of the time when somebody thinks they were doing 15mph they are normally doing a bit more.
I have been to a person that broke their neck in a sub 20mph impact with a tree, luckily it was a stable fracture, but any accident has the potential to cause serious injury if you are unlucky.0 -
