This forum is about money saving not breaking the law, or encouraging, people to act illegally.

I am continually amazed that people openly boast of their law breaking here when without too much difficulty they can be traced via their ISP and IP address.

As I keep saying; criminals are not the most intelligent amongst us, especially those who delude themselves into thinking they will never be caught.

I don't have TV (well I have a TV, but no connection to a reciever/ariel/whatever) so I don't need to pay the license. I phoned them up and told them this and they sent me one letter confirming the phonecall and saying someone might come and check, no one ever did so who cares. I didn't need to get into a song and dance about it, everything was dealt with calmly and properly.

I do think that if you recieve a TV signal then you should pay though.

As for the other laws, i do not break any. i work in finance but refuse to bullied like a communist estate just to watch tv, whoops i mean bbc

You just act like a lying cheating crook in eBay disputes while having a pathetically high judgemental view of others. Whinging and moaning about how the world is and expecting sympathy while acting like a stuck up stinky turd when anyone else offers an opinion different to yours.

As you said to the OP in the insurance question. I hope they do catch up with you, I hope your pathetic letter is laughed at in court and you get fined. Then you get jailed for non-payment of your fine.

One less crooked seller on ebay, one less troll on the forum.

I think that all of you who have been harrassed by this company should write to BBC Watchdog....I bet they won't investigate it.

Another question - is it realistic that they send someone who will wedge his foot into the door and try to squeeze into the property as was described above?

Crapita don't see people who know how to dodge the TVL as a target. Their favourite targets are people like single mums and people who aren't knowledgeable about their tactics.

For instance if a Capita agent turned up, you and I would know that they have no right of entry (without a warrant) and close the door on them. For their main target, the Capita agent will attempt to sound all officious, that he has right of entry and it would be better for the subject to let them in to discuss things. The discussion will eventually be twisted into a formal interview and a signed confession.

  • From what I understand, it’s not the owning of a TV, it’s watching TV programs while they are being aired that you need a licence for. This looks like it also means watching them on your computer. It’s also my understanding that you don’t need to let them into your house.

I don’t watch TV, haven’t done for about 15 years. To begin with I used to let them know I didn’t need a licence but that didn’t do a lot of good so I simply ignored their letters. I have a very nice DVD collection, and spend most of my free time in forums and yet I am plagued with these letters threatening court action.

Do what I did check out Youtube on how other people are dealing with these people that call at your house claiming to be TV licence reinforcement officers. Their nothing but former debt collectors.

You can have some fun with them.
Call them up and make up a completely fictitious name
tell them you have had a letter from "fictitious name signature at bottom of letter" and ask to speak to this person in person .
They ask you how you spell the name... and put you on hold.
AND ! surprise surprise someone answers the phone in the made up name you have just given them, then the fun really begins...
Had a great conversation with Alan sation once, Can I call you Al.... ? ... Hello... #Hello, he put the damned phone down.

I got another one today. That’s what brought me here. I just wanted to confirm how other people were dealing with these letters. I still think No Contact is best.

I informed them many times a few years back that I didn’t watch TV but the letters still came. They’ve called a few times over the years and I let them in. They even looked behind the sofa!

And one of those times I even fell into the trap of signing “just to say they had called at my house and that I didn’t need a TV licence” I received a £100 fine!!! As it turned out I signed to say “I had been watching TV without a licence.” I was going through a divorce and wasn’t strong enough at the time to deal with it so I paid it. My sisters even offered to buy me a TV licence in an effort to “get them off your back” but I wouldn’t hear of it.

I’m in full agreement with paying for a licence if you watch TV. And I do understand their angst if they have one and are still receiving these letters. But I’m angrier and feel more for people like myself who don’t need a TV licence and for the threats and harassment we have to put up with.
  • We are the only country in the world taxed like this:mad:
It is high time the TV licence was scrapped:mad: it is only for the scabby BBC - why can't they advertise like everyone else they certainly use enough fillers and adverts for their forthcoming shows.

Shall we see if we can start a petition to have it discussed in Parliament? Who will, no doubt just gloss it over and we will still be in the same boat but at least they would have to debate it.
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

  • I’ve spent the afternoon checking out and reading everything on the other sites where links were provided here. Looking back, nothing has changed. These people have been upsetting and harassing us for a very long time. This TV licence has to be abolished.
