Same, the tyres are the only contact with the road your car has, I wouldn't want to take the risk!
What is pi? Where did it come from?

A lot of these tyres may well be coming from places like Germany, but as I have said here before I fail to see the economics of buying a tyre with 4mm of tread -- there is much less than half the life left, and the worse half at that, so even if they are much less than half the price they seem to me to be a false economy.

(Bear in mind that a new tyre has 8mm, and the tyre is finished at 1.6mm, so 5mm is 50% used even if you run the tyres down to the legal limit which isn't really a good idea -- if you're like me and replace tyres at 3mm then a 4mm tyre is already 80% used up).

And I worry about where they get the near-new tyres from. I don't buy this business that they all come from Germany where the tyres are replaced in pairs -- there are just too many of them around.

I saw a complete set of four winter tyres on ebay, near-new. When I asked the seller where they came from he replied that the car had been in an accident. Would I put them on my car? Don't think so due to that fact. And that was an honest seller -- how many others like this are out there?

That said, I'm aware that some tyre places are actually selling these near-new tyres as new to unsuspecting punters who ask for single tyres -- very naughty.

If the tyres have 6+mm and are less than £20 fitted then they might be worth it -- but I've not found them to be that cheap. And that's before you look at potential safety questions.

We have bought retreads before which were really good and a lot cheaper than new tires

£25 for two (unknown brand, possibly mixed, second hand, unknown tread depth, unknown speed rating) 155/70/13

Then I pay what, £15 each for fitting, valve and balancing?

    So that's £55.

For £73 I can have two brand new tyres fitted at National.

    No, no, no, no, no.
The most important component on the car. Who's to say they haven't been 'kerbed' and the structure damaged?
Had one pot hole incident (hidden by car in front) and the wheel was actually a write off, but the tyre was still inflated, and seemed OK.
New wheel AND tyre claimed from the council though.
Save money on tyres, and put it towards your funeral costs.

Also some places do free fitting.

Where will fit tyres you bought online for free?

Doesn't sound like a very profitable business model to me

When you buy a used car do you stick new tyres on it right away?

There are gumtree ads for used tyres that offer free fitting and balancing.

Again, when you buy a used car do you fit brand new tyres to it right away?
