The Braun is I think a bit more painful then the Phillips but then I cant really say either are so painful I wouldnt used them

Yes I do go ouch at times but I stick with it and after a few mins the pain is no more then a wee sting

Dont use it in long hair

The thighs are the least painful area (in my experience ) as the hair is usually fine so start there

Hold the unit at the right angle and slowly move upwards. Do one sweep then move over and do the next.
The when you have done all the upwards strokes go back and if need be do circular ones ( not all hair grows the one direction)

Once the thighs are done then I do the sides of my calves as they are the best padded. Epilation hurts closed to bone - shin, ankles and knees so I leave them till Im used to the sensation and sometimes if i do find it ouchy I kind of just keep touching the unit to me rather then doing upward strokes.

But her best bet is to keep at it for a few weeks. It gets easier and as there is less hair to nab it gets quicker

Naf, I would suggest that she takes a painkiller a little time before she tries again, and holding the skin taut helps me as well. I do a bit of one leg and then the same bit of the other leg, IYKWIM. My first times were awful too, but as many posters have said, it does get easier.

BTW, painkiller can mean glass of wine ;). HTH

    I second the above.

Painkiller a good half hour before epilating.

Use it a few days after shaving at first, so the hair is short (the instructions will say how long hair should be), stretch the skin taut, and use a 'gentle' head until she gets used to it.

It only hurts a lot the first 2-3 times, and if you epilate after a long break. It is worth persevering with, I'd never go back to shaving now.

    Take a painkiller!!??
No wonder I was going through the roof trying to do my underarms. Nothing is worth that much pain. Legs were fine with it though.

I'm already ON painkillers! :rotfl: the kind which rule out the glass of wine ...

Usefully, the Braun has a shaver head which lets you get the hair to the right length for epilating before you epilate, IYSWIM.

I've tried the ice pack thing which comes with the Braun, didn't rate it much. This time I tried holding a warm flannel to the area first. Can't say it made much difference.

I really must use it more frequently, I'm sure that would help!

    Hi,

Well done for going for it on the first time with your new epilator Emma, you're braver than me!! I can do my legs and underarms no probs, don't feel a thing, but not my bikini line. i had a brazilian wax at a salon a few weeks ago with the thought i'd try keeping up to it with my epilator after it was in shape and a good short length etc but had a try the other night, and noooooo waaaaay!! far far too painful!!! Only tried a tiny area and that was far too much for me, so will have to keep going to the salon until things start to grow a bit finer, and I'll try again.

    Hi

Our local boots (Sheffield retail park) had some Braun & Phillips epilators on at half price not sure which particular models. They were around the £30-£40 price mark after the half price sale.

I find that the more you use the epilator the less painful it feels but it does tend to hurt on boney bits of the body, not sure if anyone else noticed this?
