Question for Epilator Users

Hi,
i've a question to see what I'm doing wrong with my epilator?
I've had this a while and have several attempts at using it. It's a braun Silkepil one so it's not a cheap one. Like I say I've used this several times and always end up wih horrible lumpy terrible looking legs so have given up and gone back to shaving! I do use a body scrub and the exfoliating glove everyday in the shower but still get ingrowing hairs and lumps, I just can't wear a skirt for summer as legs look horrible!!!
I've been using this for several weeks now in prep for summer clothes thinking it'll get better and my legs will get used to it and settle down, but no, I thought your legs were meant to be nice and smooth after using, but not mine.
I was thinking of going to a salon for them waxing and try using the epilator for the regrowth from the waxing, but I'm not too chuffed about having to do this as I thought spending £70 on one of these machines, I wouldn't have to shell out for salon treatments again.
Has anyone else had this problem, what did you do and how did you sort it.
Thanks.

i find using an epilator ok, but have had waxing done for a long tim before epilating
Do you epilate when you have just come out of the bath/shower so that the hair seems to come out easier?
I also suffer a bit with ingrowing hair but using a body scrub does help, some people are more prone to ingrowing hairs and it may be that epilating is not for you. I can get my underarms waxed and manage the ingrowing hairs but for some reason they are worse when epilated.
I have coarse curly hair and have been told by a beautician that my underarm/leg hair is very coarse so dont know if this is why i suffer with ingrowing hairs0 -
Hi Happy,
I don't use it just after a bath or shower as read somewhere that that's not a good way to do it, but might try it that way to see if the results are different.
I use it on my underarms and these seem fine, it's just my legs. What I might do is like you said above, go for them waxing and then try epilating from the regroeth from that and see if this is any better, just don't want to go back to shaving them all the time.
Thanks very much for your reply.0 -
I have used an epilator for years but have never had results like I would get with shaving. I find the hair isn't as noticable as the ends are tapered rather than blunt like with shaving but I still think it is worth doing.
I second epilating after a bath or shower as the hair seems to slip out easier and I don't use moisturiser afterwards or use oils in the bath or shower as the hair is harder to grip if it has product on it.If you always do what you have always done, you will always get what you always got!0 -
I love my epilator and would never go back to shaving. I exfoliate with a scrub every second day and use a buff puff with my shower gel daily. After a bath I moisturise throughly and I have smooth legs.Taking responsibility one penny at a time!0

Also, try exfoliating your dry legs before using the epilator to coax out ingrowns which the machine can then catch and pull out.Trust me - I'm NOT a doctor!0

I use an epilator. have tried it on and off on my legs but always found it painful as my legs are really hairy. I waxed them a few months ago then kept on top of re growth with my epilator about once a week. It is getting easier. I buff them with a rough body exfoliator type scrub mitt. My legs never feel really smooth after waxing or epilating, not like with a razor, but for me the smoothness after shaving only lasts about a day if that then the regrowth starts. At least using an epilator slows down the regrowth.
I have used my epilator on my top lip for a couple of years and that has worked really well.
Any way, boosted by the success with my legs, today I decided to epilate my under arms.:eek::eek::eek::eek:
However I just gritted my teeth and got on with it as I figure next time it will hurt a bit less.(It could not possibly hurt more!!)0 -
i epilate after a bath, after using a exfoliator then after i smother on some lotion or body butter which takes the redness away
i only do my legs, anywhere else was way too sore0 -

It does hurt like hell at first, mine did, but after years of doing them now i have hardly any under arm hair left, i was always really hairy as well and now just fluffy bits easily whipped away :T
I get a plucked chicken effect on my legs after i have done them which does subside the next day though so i always do them when i'm not baring my legs, funnily enough i get more ingrown hairs when i shave than epilating. My legs are not as hairy as the rest of me though. But sure i have bald patches now or extremely fine hair through epilating.
I've just bought one of those epicare tools for my lip as i couldn't epilate it, too painful and waxing just brought me out in red face for hours and then a week of spots. The epicare is not a breeze in the park but it gets easier the more i do it, but it pulls loads out at a time so over quickly ish0 -
Hi
I use an epilator and have had good results, though I do get some ingrowing hairs. A product I have found to be fantastic and really prevents and also treats any ingrowing hairs is a lotion called 'Tend skin' which you can buy off Amazon and other places online, really works for me, you use it straight after epilating and then daily/twice weekly etc, depending in how often you tend to get ingrowing hair really.
Tried doing underarms once - never again, it was torture!!!! (Can just about tolerate bikini line though!)0 -
I am not 100% happy with my legs after a few months of epilating but it is better than shaving. I agree shaved legs are silky smooth but by the next day I can fell stubble starting again. I epilate once a week now and can quite happily bare my legs as the re growth is very fine and I have lots of balder patches.
I tried epilating under my arms at the weekend and it was pretty painful so I plucked them! Odd I know, but I grabbed my tweezers and once I started I couldn't stop lol. I'll continue to pluck them for as long as need be until they start growing back finer, then and only then will I try epilating again.0
