    Hi Emma,

I have a braun Silk-e-pil, or what ever they're called. It's a good brand and does a good job, it has 2 different size epilating heads and a shaver attachment, but as you can see from my posts above, not the results the adverts promised for me just yet, but may take a few more months before I get decent results like the other posters above have said. They have all given me some idea's to think about and I'm sure someone else will post soon to let you know what epilators they use and what results they get with them.

Thanks for your reply woozypoo :)

I am surprised that you can do your under arms without any pain as that to me would be a bit scary lol You should get smooth results on your legs its a shame your not as like you say yours wasn't a cheap one, My hair is quite course so I wonder if I would have that problem too!

I have just been looking at the braun silk epil pro body and face! the cheapest I can see it for is boots at £88.46! I would like to find it cheaper though or a cheaper good quality one so I am hoping for some recommendations :) xxx

I am considering buying an epilator, I have pcos which causes excess hair and I'd like to try something thats longer lasting than shaving! I have read through all your helpful comments and I think this would be good for me, does anyone have any recommendations on the best one to buy!! Thanks in advance :)

I have 2 :o!!!! One is a Philips that I bought about 8 years ago and the other is the Braun wet & dry. I actually prefer the Philips but I might be doing something wrong with the Braun one as I just don't seem to get as good results....

Dont rush to buy it as they often go to half price.

I gave my silk epil away as I didnt like it at all - kept snagging my skin and scratching

I have an old Phillips satin ice which I keep going back to - its over 15 years old and still gives good results

I just upgraded to the Phillips Shape and style which Im really liking - near as painfree as you can get I think. And I love the shave head and bikini trimmer

I also have a braun facial wand and an emjoi tweeze -neither worth their money for facial hair but handy for the fiddly bits when doing a hollywood

Today I recieved an email from argos saying that the £5 and £10 vouchers are back on, so I had another look at the epilators and the Philips satin perfect face and body was half price at £55.99 so I went and got this and I have done the lot, full legs, lower arms, armpits and bikini!! even my upper lip and chin, the instructions say to use the shaver bit for the under arm and bikini but I didn't just want an epilator for my legs,

I won't lie, it is quite painful but I could imagine the more I do the easier it will become!! I just want to say, Thanks wuzzy poo for starting this thread and thanks to all for the tips! :)

I dont use the epi bit just for where it says - i do whole body but i do tine the trimmer great for the bikini area first so hair is all the same length and the razor is ideal for quick tidy ups

Well done you for going the whole hog on your first use. believe me it does get easier
  • A good tip with hair removal is to take note of the phases of the moon and only remove under a 'waning' moon - when it is shrinking in the sky from a full moon to a new moon. If you remove hair during this time, re-growth will be at a minimum. Remove hair during a 'waxing' moon (one which is growing in size from new moon to full moon) and you will encourage it to grow back faster and thicker. The moon is waning now until Monday the 30th so the perfect time to epilate.

It's also a good idea to avoid the days either side of a full moon as the body's pain perception is thought to be heightened at the time of a full moon. Not a good time for epilating, waxing or plucking - you may find it hurts more!

    Cara. :)

Ok, I feel a little out of place here as a man (shock, horror :-p)
I bought my wife one of the Braun Silk-epil models for her birthday (her request, not me trying to make any suggestions), but having used it just twice within a week, she refuses to try it any more (too painful) and wants to just keep it for the 100 day guarantee Braun are offering right now, then get our money back.
I wonder if anyone has any suggestions how best to use it, any tricks to help it be less painful, or just assurances I can give/show her that persevering further with it will be less painful in the future...?

  • naf, tell your wife to try and stick with it. my first times were awful, but i've been using it for a few months now and barely feel a thing when using it.
