I've just got back from the Camber Sands one and it's ok. The chalets have been painted and the bedding which i hadn't paid for was clean. The activities that we did manage to find going on were ok for the kids but it needs better organisation. I would go again if i saw another deal but i wouldn't pay full price for it as it is now.
Hope that helps anyone worrying about going.
I am going to book again for later in the year. can anyone tell me which park has the best pool as we had googled camber sands pontin before we went and were expecting a fun pool and were a bit disappointed. Also which parks have been refurbished.

    thanks
  • there all being refurbished.slowly
am still in two minds to go or not,(southport)am going to ring the park tomorrow and if they wont gave me a full refund think ill risk it but if anything happens while we there i will be getting a refund befor leaving..

The pakefield one is a dive. i live right next door too it and you only get old people in there and there is nothing to do around here either.
The nearest town is Lowestoft which is chav heaven and every other shop is closed down i would not even waste my money going there to be honest i would rather spend a bit more and go somewhere decent ie butlins etc

we just came back from there today. we had a great time! a holiday is what you make it!!!!
we were opposite park which was soo handy for our kiddies (5&7) and there were no bills in the letter box and i had no washing up!!!
we could walk over to the beach, play free crazy golf ( or funny golf as my son called it) .
yeah the accomodation was basic but it was a base . lowestoft/gorleston not far and gorgeous beaches.
no problems with cars or anything.
food was fine... .not the ritz but we were happy and the children absolutely loved the independance of getting up and getting their own food/drinks.
the one and only gripe we had was that the kiddies shows were ending late by the time it was done for our two it was 9, now i know they are on holiday but ours are normally in bed at 7 so by the time they were in bed for ours it was late but they had a ball and loved every minute! ( i wouldnt have minded but my son still woke at 5am everyday!!!)
the pool was just a rectangle and then a small childs pool at the end. they did have a flume for the older kids. we only managed to get there once though because ours loved the beaches/physical activities.
will definately be making a return visit in the future.

i hope this helps someone thinking of going. x
  • Just came home from Prestatyn Pontins and can honestly say it was a filthy dirty dump of a holiday park. We upgraded to ' club' their best accomodation and have to say I struggled with holding down my lunch when entering our room. Firstly the patio doors were covered in dirty greasy hand prints all over you could not even see into the chalet and the overpowering smell of urine as you entered made me heave !! We are used to holiday parks and having to give things a quick wipe down for hygene reasons but this was repulsive. There were filthy stains on the carpets and chairs along with the left overs from the previous occupants breakfast (cocoa pops and egg).
I tried complaining several times only to be told reception were far too busy (understandable). I had read reviews about pontins and went armed with cleaning products and positive thinking but was shocked by the filth and dirt.( We literally had a dustpan full of dust and dirt from the floor, wish i could post the pics I took. Luckily it didnt rain so we spent most of our time outside the apartment. I am amazed people are not being ill from staying here, the bins are overflowing and litter is strewn all over the play areas etc.
I am gutted this was our annual holiday with the kids , and really wish I had done something about it on reading the reviews beforehand.
We visited some beautiful areas of wales so enjoyed part of our holiday and only used pontins as a base camp . I would not ever consider a pontins site again even if it was a free holiday.

Had the same experience. The area of Wales is wonderful and we did not spend a minute in the camp that we didn't have to. Our first chalet was just horrible. If felt and looked filthy. The bed was unsleepable in as we just rolled to the middle it was so damaged. We complained and paid to move up a grade. you wouldn' want to walk on the carpet in anything other than shoes and we didn't bring ourselves to cook. It really brought out the snob in me. If I see large amounts of people in football shirts really don't want to be there.

For those of you who are saying that a holiday is what you make of it and the accommodation is basic, but what do you expect for the price:

I at least expect the place to be clean, even if it is tatty. Even if you are just using it as a base, if it's filthy dirty, it really can ruin the whole holiday. We're not being malicious, or trying to ruin peoples holidays. We want people to enjoy it and have fun and not worry about the kids sleeping in blood/urine etc stained beds.

We know your time and money is precious.

By the way the ice rink at Prestatyn is no more!!
We got to Pontins about 5 times a year and our kids love it. We go skiing every year and also abroad each September. Also just went to Berlin at easter but our kids still love Pontins and are looking forward to it. I have 3 breaks booked, all for less than the price for all 4 of us to camp somewhere. (I rang a campsite up last week and they wanted £40 a night!!!!) We have a great time. A holiday is what you make it!

ps I have never stayed in a chalet with urine soaked beds or dirt. if we got one like that we'd just ask to move, end of!

But surely then, you'll have to thoroughly wash your own quilts. You wouldn't put them on your own bed when you get home after being in one of those bug infested chaklets would you???
personally I'd rather slum it with theirs for a week and get a good shower when we get home than take anything from my house into one of those chalets and then take it back in again!!!!

Wouldn't bother me TBH, our washing machine is big enough to stick even the double quilt into, just stick it on the intensive wash. If it's even remotely bug-infested then the quilts won't even be coming out of the car!

I'm not fussy by any means, but you have to wonder what state the quilt needs to be in before they'd replace it?

Wouldn't it be cheaper just to buy a value quilt from tesco and use that for hols? lol
As I said I have never found a bad quilt, and I am VERY fussy. If you don't wash your hands before you touch anything in your house, everythime you touch a door handle or supermarket trolley when out then go into your home you are tranferring MILLIONS of germs that will be far worse than anything in a duvet! Anywhere you stay, even if it LOOKS clean, doesn't mean it will be. I remember seeing a cleaner in Haven cleaning a toilet then cleaning the kitchen worktop with the same cloth It looked clean but oooh the thought of it!
