However, I still had to swipe my personal credit card when checking in and anything other than my room, breakfast and evening meal would have been charged to this (i.e. if I'd decided to watch a film).
Last twice I have stayed away on business I have been asked for a credit or debit card to swipe. I have declined saying I will pay in cash. One hotel no problem other got a bit huffy, but didnt do anything about it.

That's pretty normal, I guess most companies won't pay for the films  anyway.

the company that i work for issues all 'field' employees with a cash float of £400 and we can also get a company credit card. I stay away regularly and sometimes the company picks up the room and breakfast fee and I pick up extras and re claim on expenses. Sometimes we have to pay for everything but our expense runs are fortnightly and paid a week after claim so we can always get the money back before it is due if put onto a credit card. I didnt bother to get a company credit card as I get cashback on my personal one and it is not compulsory to get the company one. We can also claim a daily lunch allowance without a receipt.
I hope you managed to get it sorted out and that you wont be left short at Christmas :)

Thanks again,it seems like paying up front and reclaiming is fairly normal practice!
DH went to his boss and was there hour and half  he asked about his contract and now has it  ,he told his boss that he has no way of funding trips away and that if that's what they want him to do they will have to find some way of covering the cost.It turns out that the company use Travelodge hotels, but it was paid through a different account and the payments always bounced as not enough money was transferred each month,so Travelodge stopped accepting bookings from them.Since this has happened all employees have paid using their own CC/money.DH explained he has no card, boss said 'may I ask why?' DH then told him he had had some problems which are sorted and doesn't want to end up in the same position again, boss confessed that his wife had run up massive debts without him knowing and wanted to know how DH had sorted his problems,DH recomended Payplan and this site ;) don't be surprised if he comes along in the next couple of days!
It was then agreed, over coffee!!!,that DH would not go away on these trips as it would cause problems for his family :D
Turns out the employer isn't all bad :j
    Thanks for listening!

  • Hi this is my first post to this thread but I read the lot and...what a relief! It's nice that your hubby was able to take another stance and be the one giving advice.

Glad his boss was ok - I have had the odd troubles but always end up with advances and receipts!

I think the Boss needs to get on here urgently. Business account bouncing payments - hello - alarm bells ringing. He needs to sort out his cashflow.

Glad your OH is sorted though.

It's ok,it was down to a dippy secretary a couple of years back who didn't understand what she was supposed to do  ,she caused all manner of problems at the time and was eventually asked 'to leave' ;)
Things have been fine since the new secretary took over and the business is thriving,so nothing to worry about :D
I have to admit I trust no one and this was my first reaction, but after DH spoke with the other employees about the hotel payments they backed up the story, all beit with the blonde jokes coming in thick and fast

thats excellent news. At least he has an understanding boss
  • Glad to hear it turned out ok.

I was in the same situation 3 years back & all my cards & overdraft were maxed out. I was on too low a grade to qualify for the corporate amex & because I couldn't pay for the car hire, weeks hotel etc in advance the project manager had to put it on his card & I was labelled a troublemaker & not a team player & it took 2 years of being given crappy assignments & watching less qualified people move up before a vacancy came up in a team where I'd worked with the boss before & caught a break.

Now I think about it though I think that was what started my lightbulb flickering before the actual lightbulb moment.

I told my employers about my debt. Im in the Navy as most people know and told my Captain, XO, Divisional Officer and the Defence Vetting Agency. I had to because of the classified nature of my job. Although I felt releived because this was a weight off my shoulders but at the same time I felt somewhat ashamed.
