How did he get on??0

Is there any reason why he doesn't have contract as yet? It's something that he needs to get sorted really."One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."
Because by then you've blown your chances. That's it."0 -

How wonderfully unflexible of them.
Why not have your OH tell his employer that he is against all forms of credit on religious grounds? See how eagerly they want to force him to get a credit card then...
My company is exactly the same though. You're expected to have a credit card to cover hotel / subsistence while you're away on business and then to claim that back via expenses. Luckily I have one, and luckily our expense dept is quite good at paying the money back into your account within a week or two. I've always felt there was something a little bit wrong with it though.
His employers could always arrange a corporate charge card with Amex, I suppose.0 -
One thing with company credit cards - they're usually issued in the name of the employee, so they probably will run a credit check on you. I believe most schemes are run like this so that the card is linked to both the company and the employee as a kind of safe-guard from the employee going crazy with the card and the company being liable for the full amount.0

I have a kinda similar problem. I'm going to salzburg next year for a conference. It's for 6 days. I have to buy the flights soon and pay for hotel accommodation. Then cover my food etc for all that time. I expect it'll cost about £800. I only have £1000 limit on my credit card and there is always other stuff on there, especially with it being christmas.
I'm not sure what to do. As I'm a student and this conference is because of my course there is no company credit card or petty cash to pay from. If I want to go I assume I just have to pay for it then claim it back afterwards. I don't know what I can do about it0 -
I work for a Local Authority and we have to claim all expenses in arrears. They only pay once a month with the payroll too and you have to get your claim in 2 weeks before payroll run. Often you wait almost 2 months for reimbursement.

Before you go T&E (Travel and Entertainment) budget on your personal credit card make sure you know two things:
1. The expenses policy. What you can spend on, and how much.
2. The promise of turnaround on payment. Currently my Employer has a 14 day promise.
Generally if you have insufficient credit ask the Company to find a hotel who will invoice the company for your stay, also often referred to as "account to company". Most hotels/chains offere this facility, after the compnay fills in an account form with banking and business references etc.0 -
When I worked in my last job, I occasionally had to stay away. Hotels were booked in advance by the company and invoiced to the company. They actually got a corporate discount, so if for some reason you decided to book your own hotel, they wouldn't refund the cost through expenses, unless it had been agreed in advance for a specific reason (i.e. no hotels in the company scheme where you needed to go).
However, I still had to swipe my personal credit card when checking in and anything other than my room, breakfast and evening meal would have been charged to this (i.e. if I'd decided to watch a film).
Make sure he knows exactly what he can and can't claim though - I was allowed up to £5 a day for lunch when away, so I used to buy a sandwich and also buy a couple of bags of crisps, couple of chocolate bars and a drink, to make sure I used the full £5. I was also entitled to about £3 per night to cover phone calls/newspapers etc.
I once had to stay at a hotel in Docklands, London, at short notice and there wasn't time to book it through the company scheme. Although I had a work credit card, it was limited to £250! which wasn't enough. Luckily my employer was also my bankers, and they increased my personal overdraft to cover the bill. It did cause some confusion when my expenses claim included overdraft interest as well as hotel costs however, but they paid up
