Thanks guys, you all feel pretty much as I do.DH asked me to ask this before he speaks to his boss at 2 O'clock.
I've told him it's none of their business and that they should book for him in advance, but his company 'don't do this',no idea why,I will get him to ask.His employers are very good with us,they allow him time out to take the kids to school when I can't,they are very understanding, but I don't feel they have a right to know our situation, plus I don't want them to know.
Thanks again

Your husband doesn't need to explain his reasons for not having a credit card to his employer.
If it's suggested that he pays cash/debit card himself, then claim back on expenses he needs to find out when they will be paid so you're not out of pocket. We only used to pay them once a month with the salary run.
If it's likely he won't be reimbursed until January salary then he should request petty cash, if asked for a reason, he should just say 'I don't have any spare personal cash as it's Christmas'.
If they won't give petty cash, he should request a company credit card as it's for company business.0 -

Yes we do have a debit card, but there wouldn't be enough money in the account to cover costs, things are tight and all spare money goes to Payplan

A trip to london with hotels/ meals and the like would be looking at hundreds.
Even if he did have a CC ( as I do- paying off) would there be enoiugh creit on it? Not in my case.
this is ridiculous. if they want him to work away, they pay for it. Simple. Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...

He need justify nothing.
If he is required, for a business need, to go away from his normal place of work, then there is no reason for the company not to book him his hotel while he is away. They may also get a DBB deal so the only thing he would have to pay for is lunch. He should be able to claim this back on his return.
They should have a policy on all of this.
Good luck and remember there is no pressure on him to tell his employers anything about his personal situation. He can say as much or as little as he wants. Do keep us up to date.We all evolve - get on with it0 -
Speaking as someone who controls the work finances (despite not being able to control my own) and whose OH had to fund his own expenses when he was in work, I can sympathise with you.
He should just tell your employer that it is his own personal choice not to have a credit card. If he really wanted to he could say that he ran up a debt when he was a yound naive 18 year old on a credit card and feels that he would rather use cash to pay for things now. I would have a lot of admiration for anyone who came to me and told me that.
I also think it is unreasonable for the employer to expect you to fund their business. It can be a problem booking hotels etc via a company as not all of them except cheques/cc's. I would ask them to provide a float up front. That is what we do at work now.Quality is doing something right when no one is looking - Henry Ford

I've had the same problem in the past (except all my cards were maxed out). I ended up just using my bosses amex to book everything online, but doesn't help for stuff whilst you are away. They should definitely provide you with an alternative, and it's none of their concern why you haven't got one. If I was in that situation Id simply state that I dont have one and dont want one. If they tried to imply that 'everyone should have one' Id just laugh at them as if id interpreted it as a joke (this is my prefered method of dealing with any 'awkward' situation - I find people dont then like to explain that they werent actually joking). If needed Id then start going on and on and on about the evils of debt and how I dont believe in borrowing etc. Dont be afraid to stand up for something you believe in, whether out of principle or necessity. I always think, hold on, why cant I be the leader, why cant I be the one instigating the peer pressure, why cant I be the one to say, actually, living with a credit card is stupid, not only is it bad financial management but you are giving a greedy corporate company a few percent of all your transactions. Make them feel like suckers.
If you get desperate, just claim you cant borrow for religious beliefs! No boss is gonna mess with that just casually drop in the words 'industrial tribunal'.Debt: a bloomin big mortgage

Hi - just a quick thought, if your OH did have a credit card, I bet the firm wouldn't pay the charges for using it, so he's losing out again by paying more, if you see what I mean.
Apologies if posters have already said this....
