Morning all,DH came home from work yesterday in a foul mood,I asked what was wrong and he said it was because he doesn't have a credit card
I got all righteous with him,but it turns out he has to go to his boss today to 'explain why he doesn't have a CC'.I am shocked,he sometimes does site work, which involves travel, but they want him to go to London during the week for a few weeks, they want him to pay his expenses on his CC and then reclaim them back,he told them this is not possible because he doesn't have a card, they laughed at him  and said 'everyone has one'
My question is,would you tell your employer the truth about your debt,or would you just say you don't want to get into debt by having a CC?
Also does anyone know his rights here, are they able to send him off with no way of payment?
Thanks
LIH

It would be very easy fo them to give him petty cash and he collects the receipts. Otherwise, they could get him his own company credit card. There ARE other options and he has no obligation to hold a credit card for use for work purposes. Some people are sooooo darn awkward and inflexible.0

There's no way I would admit to being in debt for this. Not because I'm ashamed of it, but because its none of their d*mn business!
Personally I think its out of order for them to even ask him to explain why he doesn't have a credit card- why is the way he chooses to run his affairs anything to do with them? I would just say "I don't have a credit card because I didn't think I needed one." and leave it at that.
I don't see what the problem is with him paying cash and getting a receipt- what's the difference?
I'm not sure precisely on the legal standing but I'm pretty sure that if they want him to go they have to find some way to refund his expenses- whether thats using petty cash or giving him a company CC. He doesn;t have to have a CC and I wouldn;t tell them why.
as the previous poster said ask for a float or a company cc. his work could also pay up front for his hotel.
i have a co CC and was worried about apply but its about the companies credit not yours.0 -

No they don't. I didn't have one until my late 20s. My Dad (retired) still doesn't have one.

Well how it used to work with DH, everything exept meals were booked in advance by the comapny. Some nice some bloody awful places. All meals/other expences were paid in cash and the reciepts taken in when he got back.Barclaycard 3800

i wouldn't feel under any obligation to explain why your OH doesn't have a credit card. There is certainly no shame in not having one either - what an odd attitude.
As for explaining himself - that is ridiculous. If asked, my personal reply would be that "I don't want the temptation of easy access to credit, its a personal choice, however, if the office want to supply me with one, i would be happy to learn how to use it" ;-)
I can't promise that all my replies will illicit this responser.mac, you are so wise and wonderful, that post was lovely and so insightful!

Do his company offer a credit card?
If so he will be able to get one - no matter what his credit history.
He is under no obligation to carry a personal credit card for use in connection with his work.
If he does not have the spare cash to finance a work trip to anywhwere he should be able to get money upfront from his employer. A lot of them will say they don't do this, but why should an employee pay out his or her own money on a business trip?
My company has a very strict policy of staff having to have a company credit card and no money being advanced for business trips. Neither of which are enforcable and people still get money upfront. We all evolve - get on with it0 -
Does he have a debit card? Would they do it that way?"People who "do things" exceed my endurance,

at our place, some blokes were made to pay for last minute flights to europe and accomodation for a big event and claim the,m back. It cost them around £800 each and took ages to get back!0
