there - 'in or at that place'
their - 'owned by them'
they're - 'they are'
it's bought not brought (i just bought my chicken a suit from that new shop for £6.34)0 -
I just told Asda to sod off, It is nothing to do with them whether I have a TV licence or not. They asked for my name and put refused to give info on the form.
This is Big brother gone mad, It is just another way for companies to get info on their system I am absolutely livid.
I could buy a TV off Ebay and no details need to be given. The government needs to do its own work.
I have a TV licence by the way but this has infuriated me. It is not for any retailer to police my taxes.

VAT is completely different, That "is" their business and their right as a retail outlet, they have to charge it, they don't however have to check if I have car tax when I fill up with fuel.
My individual taxes have nothing to do with them!!!!!0 -
Not even your address for delivery ?
Something that large you could and probably would collect, not to mention second hand sets bought all the time from internet sites.
This reply is picking at straws it's the principle that any retailer can enforce an individual government tax.
Whether I have a TV licence or not has nothing to do with the retailer, it is between me and the government.0 -
For any prosecution for no TV license they need a Person to attach the summons to, for this to happen you need to give them your name and then again confirm you are that person. No name, no summons . you are Under No legal or lawful obligation to give your name to anyone unless you are under arrest. That includes police officers, plastic coppers, enforcement officers of any description or people working for a private company checking TV licences. You can only be arrested on suspicion of committing an arrestable offence. These are your rights and people died for them. Show some respect and fight for them.
The reason you spend 10 years at school answering to your name is so you get used to it and fall for it. Never answer to your name in person or on a telephone until you establish why they want this information. ask them theirs they will soon tell you that you carn't have it.
They will do well finding Mr J Smith.0 -

Whether you like it or not, the retailer has a legal obligation to report sale to the relevant authorities. Of course, they may well not know, for items taken from the shop, whether or not you have given them the correct information.
The problem as it relates to the OP is not reporting the sale of a TV but insisting on details for something for which they have no obligation to report. (And in which the relevant authorities have zero interest.)There are two types of people in the world: Those that can extrapolate information.0 -
I don't understand this at all - I just told the licensing people that I don't watch live TV as it is broadcast and they sent me a letter confirming this and then left me alone, this was about 18 months ago now
you don't need a TV license to listen to the radio, or to watch DVDs/videos, or to watch iPlayer, or to hum the theme tune of coronation street. I would just call them and explain, if they continue to write to you over and over then worry about that when it happens.0 -
When I bought my TV from a large supermarket a couple of years ago, they never asked me for my details. Not that I would've given them the real details anyway. Why? Because it's up to me to tell the TVL people about having a TV. I know the retailer is just trying to do their job, and I won't be impolite about it, I just won't give my real details to them.Call me what you like, I was a bit "tiddly" when I chose my username
