Hiya A,
Really pleased for you. We've been thinking for a long while about getting a puppy but with both of us working full-time, it hasn't seemed doable. I've got enough flexibility at work to possibly get home every day to get a quick walk in but we'll need to have a proper think about it - would solve Moyra's birthday present quandary mind! Looking forward to a couple of pics and hope she is settling in nicely.
Cheers,

Hi everyone
Thank you all for your lovely messsages.
Sorry I haven't replied and updated sooner but I've just been so busy looking after and settling Cara in (and we also had a little accident with the laptop on Sat morning! My fault entirely for leaving it plugged in - Cara caught her leg on the wire, got a fright, spun round and the laptop flew off the table and into a chair leg so the screen is kaput).
She's gorgeous, such a sweetheart - how anyone could abandon her is beyond me! She's great natured, just loves people and being fussed over. I think she is closer to 3 than 5 as she is very playful and quite exciteable. Her only vices so far are pulling on her lead and jumping up but these can both be worked on, and she may be a bit calmer when she's getting her full exercise quota - she's only on short walks at the moment as she had an infected womb removed just over a week ago and, apparently, that is a very major operation. Wound has healed nicely though and we are seeing the vet for a check up on Wed, so hopefully we'll get the go-ahead for mad runs along the beach! I'm nipping home at lunchtimes, this week, to walk her but, if the vet gives us the ok, she'll be getting a 2-hour walk with a dog walker during the day while I'm at work from next Mon (as well as being walked by mself in the mornings and evenings). I can't believe how lucky I am
.
Will post pictures very soon.

Sounds lovely. Looking forward to seeing the pictures soon. :cheesy:
Really wish we could have one but I have enough on my plate with two kids on my own and work and everything. Maybe in a few years when the kids are a bit more independent. I still really miss my old one.

Pictures to follow, if I can work out how to do it. They're not great as she likes to be right next to me all the time (I'm sure that will change when she feels a bit more secure) which isn't great for taking photos!!gratefulforhelp wrote: »If all else fails

I brought Cara home on Fri lunchtime and went out a bought one of these on Sat morning!:D They are fab and def make a huge difference. The only problem is if we stop we walking she sticks her head between my legs or if we're on grass she rubs her face along the grass to try and get it off. This is pulling the straps over her eye and I'm a bit worried it'll scrape her eye. I ordered the Halti harness yesterday and I am hoping it will arrive today. I haven't done anything else to try and correct the pulling as I don't want to go about it the wrong way. If the vet gives us the go-ahead today for normal exercise etc, well be attending our first obedience class next week which I'm hoping will help with the pulling issue.cha97michelle wrote: »You sound so happy. I am:D. She's great.
Can anyone give me an idea how to post a picture. Just tried but haven't a clue what I'm doing:o.
I will need to update my mortgage figures for Jul, just not getting much time at moment, at work or home (and the broken laptop doesn't help - which reminds me, must got onto insurance co.). This month is going to be pretty tight as I hadn't actually budgeted for getting a dog quite so soon, although I knew if I did I would manage. I am trying not to touch any of my 'mortgage overpayment' savings and 'pay off' my dog expenses from any spare and extra earned cash this month - currently £44 (have already cleared some of it:D) plus todays vets fees and food/treats for rest of month. These figures include dog walking fees. All dog expenditure is budgeted for in future months.

Well done you for giving the porr dog a fresh start. A lot of people say that many content dogs will just sleep all day if their owner is out at work, not ideal but I'm sure my Mums Labrador used to do this. You've got dog walking plans anyway so I'm sure your new friend will have a lovely life

Thanks summerday. I'm pretty sure Cara would be fine if I was to leave her all day, she appears to just sleep when she is left for any length of time at the moment but I think she'll be much happier if she is out for a couple of hours during the day to break up the monotony. From what the dog walker has said, once she is back to full health and ok with the other dogs she will be going for a strenuous one hour walk, back to the dog walkers house for treats and drink, pick up an older dog, and then out for another, more leisurely, hour walk. Sounds like doggy heaven to me!!
