Getting a free Sky HD box

i am having the same problem with my sky hd box as the op. i done the advised system rebuild but the problem is still there.
i phoned sky yesterday morning to complain and was told as my box is 2 years old i could pay £65 for a enginner to visit and he would either fix my sky box or replace it with a reconditioned one that carries a 90day warrenty or pay £8 month insurance and claim against my box that way.
i said no-way and would like to cancel and go to virgin instead and was then transferred to another department where i explained that although i was generally happy with sky i was not going to pay them £65 for a second hand reconditioned replacement box when i can get 1 in the local paper for £40 and if that is the best customer service they could offer then i will take my money to virgin.
the very nice lady on the phone then said she could offer me a brand new sky+ hd box complete with 12month warrenty and an engineer to deliver and install it for £30. :T:T:T0 -

You've done well there0 -
So, whats the current best way to get a free Sky+ HD box of Sky, also what is different between anytime and anytime+ ?
Anytime plus connects to ONLY Sky broadband and allows you to watch lots and lots of different stuff at any different time similar to Virgins VOD service.
Where as normal anytime just pushes whatever programs sky wants to send out and is limited to 160gb or 250gb of programs (dependant on box).
Also anytime programs are only generally viewable for about 2 weeks and new stuff takes their place.
basically anytime+ is a lot more flexible and can be downloaded any time by the user and has a lot more selection.0 -

I didnt have to subscribe to HD mate. I called them up and told them from the off that I wanted to cancel. When they asked why I told them that my Sky + was playing up and that as I am getting married in a few months I couldnt afford the outlay for a HD box right now. So I wanted to cancel and I was going to use a freeview box that my mum had spare. They then offered me a free HD box and also free installation. The HD box was fitted on Sunday morning and is working great. They also offered me a free relocation of the sky + box into my bedroom - but I didnt require that as the cables are already there and I know how to do the rest myself.
The engineer that fitted the HD box told me that the sky staff can only offer you deals once you tell them that you are wanting to cancel your contract. He also told me that if the person you are talking to suggests that you are on multiroom whilst on the phone just go along with them - even if you dont have multiroom. This is because the staff can offer better deals for those on multiroom and they are covering their backs as calls are recorded.
Even though I dont have multiroom and have never been charged for the service I did go along with the sky staff member that I spoke to on the phone as I sensed in their voice that it would be beneficial for me to do so. I think that this is why I didnt have to even pay for the installation.
Hope that is all clear. Give me a shout if you want any more info.0 -

Just a query - if you are moving your Sky+ box to the bedroom which is already cabled, you are presumably going to use it as a FTA box (without Sky+ facilities)-cos you haven't got a mutiroom sub??
Or are you thinking you can get your full package in both rooms without paying the sub??:D0 -

Well I actually already have an old 'normal' sky box in the bedroom which is already wired in. As I have never had any problems with it and the Sky + has been playing up I am just going to leave it as it is. Putting the sky + wont give me any extra benefit as there is only the one cable in so I couldnt have the record feature. The engineer would actually have put the extra wire in for me, but I hardly ever watch TV in bed and I can do all my recording on the new HD box, so it seemed pointless. But yes I do just use the box in my room as a FTA box. Just paid £15 for the FTA card a few months back.
With the sky + I am going to stick it in the loft as there is already another cable in there! It will probably get even less use than the one in my bedroom, but every now and then I find enough time to have a play Footy Manager on my PC that is tucked away up there and I like to watch the TV at the same time, so it will come in. Im going to give it a reset and clear the hard drive in the hope that it works a bit better.0
