Getting a free Sky HD box

Really? Now that is interesting. I would have expected there to be a minimum subscription to HD for at least 6 months.
Do you know if you can receive a HD signal to free HD channels (such as BBC) if you arent paying sky the £10 for their HD service? Does the subscription provide HD for all channels - or only the Sky channels?
Its only provides it for subscribed sky channels
BBC, ITV and few other hd channels are free to view if there FTA.
As far as im aware there is no minimum subscribe if your an existing customer with a subscription already.0 -
As far as I know. That gum you like is coming back in style.0

Sorry I didnt mean Virgin - I meant that Sky were offering free HD boxes to long term customers. This appears to be only for customers that have boxes that arent HD ready.
I think that Virgin only offer them free to new customers at the moment. Sorry for the confusion.
Actually, they don't.With Virgin, the equipment belongs to them at all times so,unlike Sky,where you own the box & have to pay for service calls after the initial 12 month contract (unless you have the rip off protection plan) VM can give free upgrades or service calls.
Because you don't own VM's equipment,it has to be returned when you leave them.
What you are getting free with VM is free installation or/and set up.0 -
Can you get a new box and keep the old one? I take it from reading the thread that the Sky box belongs to me.
I have Sky World (I think that's the name for the package with all the channels) with HD and multiroom alongwith the Sky Talk Freetime, line rental and Unlimited broadband. I've just finished a 12 month contract. I've been a Sky customer about 5 years with HD the last 2 and the phone and broadband the last year.
My SkyAnytime+ hasn't been activated yet although I've had emails saying it should be soon. I think the Amstrad boxes are the last to get it?
I'd like to take advantage of this service although not necessarily in the living room SkyHD box. I'd be a lot more likely to use it in the bedroom which only has an old basic Sky box.
If I could get a new box from Sky I'd like to put it in the living room and put the old HD box in the bedroom and use it for the Anytime+ services. I think all I'd have to do is phone Sky to get them to pair up the boxes and cards again.
Will this work?0 -

Oh I didnt realise that. I didnt want to move to Virgin anyway really, but I had heard you could get a free HD box. I suppose you are in a way, even though it doesnt belong to you.0 -

Yes,a lot of what you ask is done on a standard multiroom install. It is/was called a 'Sky+HD & Relocate' when I worked for them.0 -
It'll come down to what they offer on the monthly payment side of things. If they offer a free box I think I'll be unlikely to get much off my monthly bill? Boxes are available on eBay for £100 or so so it'll depend on what they offer as to whether it's better value to get more off the monthly bill and buy a box or get the box free with less off the bill.0

I bought the latest amstrad box (890) for £50 inc p&p and it is much faster and smaller than my old amstrad (780).
If sky won't offer you a box for free get one off ebay second hand for £50 and ring up sky to pair your card to your new hd box.
Done mine last night.0 -
