I feel that E.On may be relying on apathy to increase their profits even with a decreased customer base - i.e. some will leave for cheaper deals elsewhere, most won't bother and will end up paying ~20% more without realising.

    Spot on!

Exactly the same ploy that Scottish Power just used. Those on OLE9 which finished in March were put on a cheap new tariff at x% below Standard etc. Except the forgot to mention that OLE13 was available and was 8.5% cheaper.

Had my reminder email to say that Fix Online 8 is coming to an end, so a quick look at the E.on website shows the only equivalent tariff available offers slightly more expensive unit prices, but NO 17% online discount. Why? It's still an online product?

All in all it looks like an 18-19% minimum increase if I stay with E.on, so time to shop around.

Real shame as I have really liked E.on as a business, but I'm not prepared to pay over the odds when there are plenty of competitors to choose from.

I have received my letter today from Eon. I have lost my 20.2% Online Discount, which is replaced by a discount of 2% So not only are the prices increasing, my bill is also increasing by 18.2%. My deal ends on 1 JUly, so I will start to compare during July. It is interesting to see that BG Websaver 12 do not publish exact prices per unit, unless I am looking in the wrong place.

The easiest way is to enter details on energyhelpline and then look at the detail for websaver12.

    British Gas

British Gas are the largest provider of gas and electricity in the UK with around 11 million gas customers and 6 million electricity customers. They are generally known as Scottish Gas in Scotland and Nwy Prydain in Wales.

Service Ratings - they have been given a 4 star service rating by us as they recently had a low number of cases raised against them by Consumer Focus. They also have an extended hours call centre and excellent services to pay bills and submit meter reads online.

Tariffs - British Gas offer a number of different types of tariff, including a standard tariff, online tariff and capped tariff. Their cheapest online tariff is WebSaver 11 which includes both lump sum discounts and discounted rates. Any customer switching to a British Gas online tariff should be aware that they will no longer receive a paper bill. The WebSaver tariff is however specially designed so that customers can do as much as possible over the internet. If you did need to call BG on this tariff, there is a customer service centre now available on a 0800 phone number.

Green Tariffs - British Gas offer 2 green products. Future Energy Plus is a tariff that offsets all of a household's energy usage to be carbon neutral. Future Energy is a 100% green electricity tariff.

HOMECARE - British Gas also offer standalone boiler and central heating service plans. This is often known as British Gas Homecare Cover. This contract is entirely separate from your gas and electricity supply and is not dependent on you being a British Gas customer for energy. If you choose to switch away from British Gas for your energy, the service will continue and be completely unaffected. Additional Information Tariff information Customers signing up to British Gas's Websaver 12 will receive a minimum 6% discount against British Gas's tier 2 standard tariff prices until 30th September 2012. There is a cancellation fee of £30 for gas and £30 for electricity if you cancel your contract and switch away from Websaver 12 prior to 30th September 2012. Customers must manage their energy account online and receive their bills online, although there is a dedicated telephone number in the event that customers need to contact British Gas. British Gas also request that you submit your meter readings regularly online. The estimated savings figure on the results table assumes tariff rates and discounts remain the same for a year. However, from the 1st October 2012 British Gas will either transfer you to the closest equivalent offer available or their standard gas and electricity offer, either of which may be more expensive than WebSaver 12.
